LICEY 5, ESCOGIDO 1 IN LICEY

Escogido:  Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run.

Licey:  Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.  Rene Rivera was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Yunesky Maya (Atlanta) pitched seven innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

The game:  Polanco homered with two out in the first to put Escogido on the board with a 1-0 lead.  Licey opened the first with three singles, the third a run-scoring hit by Erick Aybar (Angels).  That tied it at one, and later in the inning a force out put Licey ahead 2-1.  It stayed 2-1 until the fourth, when Francisco opened the inning with a home run.  A pair of one-out singles later in the inning put two on, and a two-out double by Rivera made it 5-1.  Other than the Polanco homer, Escogido's only scoring threat came in the fourth, when a two-out single put men on first and third.  A ground out ended the inning.
