  1. I made it to the final round of interviews for the position I've been after. That interview is this morning. Time to close the deal.

  2. So, Ricky plays in the fourth and the Wolves score 35 points. Huh.

Also, BAZZ can actually do some things besides jack up shots. That's pretty cool. The best part of his effort last night was his effort. Kid played hard, as if he feels like he needs to play hard to stick in this league, which he does.

      1. If you could one of those Free Shabazz! jerseys that Flea wore at the Super Bowl, that would be cool.

        1. How do we interpret that shirt given that we are certain that Flea was faking his performance while he wore it? A protest against the faking? A statement about his own esmasculation transferred to the downward spiral of Bazz's hype? Does he think that Bazz is faking? Does freeing Bazz symbolize the end of Flea's downward spiral? Or does it signify death?

  3. I forgot that I had used a credit card at Target shortly before Christmas so my wife wouldn't see the charge on our Target Red Card. So I was a little surprised to learn yesterday that somebody had hijacked that credit card account and authorized a pay-by-phone payment of more than $6,000 out of our checking account on Monday. The bank reversed the payment yesterday, but of course they charged me an overdraft fee in the meantime that they'll only kick back half of as a "courtesy." The credit card company closed the account, opened a new one and sent the case to Investigations. On the bright side, I now get a year of credit monitoring for free.

    1. color me dumb, but how did they use your credit card to steal directly from your checking account?

Not to mention, "Excuse me? HelLO! You authorized $6,000 in charges on my checking account by phone!!!!1111one111!!! without due diligence and you want ME to pay overdraft charges? I'm thinking I need a new bank."

      1. Yeesh. What Doc said. I'd refuse to pay any of that overdraft fee. How can they assure your money is safe after letting it go so easily?

      2. Surprised your credit card company didn't take action long before this. We had credit cards reissued from a local bank and from DISCOVER preemptively. Your credit card company is just being lazy.

        1. Yeah, we had a reissued credit card b/c they tracked that I made a purchase there w/in the window.

If it's a card from a smaller bank, I can understand why they might have waited to re-issue; it's not cheap to do, right? But if it's a major credit card or bank card... they can foot it.

            1. As I understand it, smaller banks are usually buying such cards/access to systems from larger companies. Replacing all of their customers cards involves them paying a 3rd party. But this is a fairly loose understanding, so... maybe size doesn't matter?

  4. I haven't heard from everybody yet (about 10 regulars and 10 lurkers), but it looks like the WGOM Hall of Fame is a go. We've had an overwhelmingly positive response, with 30 people so far requesting ballots, including a couple lurkers.

I really hope we can make this fun and not just a battle over statistics. If it's not half-baked, it's probably not worth it. I hope to start it sometime next week and we'll figure things out as we go along.

I decided against having any strict statistical rules for who's eligible. When I throw out a list of names, it will be based partly on WAR (say, 30 WAR for batters, 28 for pitchers), but I will also include players who are historically significant or popular, those who got elected to the hall but probably didn't deserve it, and anything else that lights my fancy on that particular day. After all, I want it to be fun. If in the comments section, people want others added to the ballot, we can add them, too.

    Any other ideas are welcome.

    1. I'm glad you plan on including players who were historically significant despite where they fall with regard to WAR. I'm thinking Negro Leaguers would have been unduly penalized otherwise.

        1. And I like the Hall of Merit's idea of never having a person drop off the ballot. (Unless, maybe they get a zero vote one year or something.)

          1. The problem with that is that the ballot would eventually grow to be several-hundred people long. How could that not be overwhelming?

            1. I'm already overwhelmed, just thinking of all my protests. No one pre-Jackie Robinson, because racism slanted competition/stats. No steroids era for same reason. No greenies era. No pre-DH era. No post-DH era. No one after they adjusted the mound-height. No one after air travel...

              1. What about a pitcher/position player combo from the DH league from the post-steroids era?
You decide if this refers to Butters or Tony Pena Jr.

                1. I'll admit they fall in the very narrow window after steroids-era but before no-home-plate-collisions era. But no one should be unanimous, of course, so I'll probably leave 'em both of my ballot anyway.

              2. Yeah, what about cyclamates, aspartame, SweetNLow, Equal, NutraSweet, Stevia, and Splenda!

            2. Not necessarily. If someone drops off the ballot by not getting any votes, then they drop off forever. When looking at the Hall of Merit, it looks like the last election had about 55 players get votes. That's a little unwieldy, but nothing too crazy and I don't think we'll have as big a breakdown in votes over here.

              1. Add a vote option to keep the player on the ballot but not count as a yes. Then cut off anyone below some percentage that could be higher than 5% since no now really means no.

                  1. just maintain a google docs spreadsheet of those dropped from the ballot for getting below the threshold number of votes. We can then have a "Veterans Committee"-type appeal process to put a player back on the ballot in a subsequent round.

                    1. Veterans' Committee = Can of Corn and Carter Hayes?
Can't remember if NBB should be on it too, or if I'm forgetting someone else.

  5. I don't care what you have for political beliefs, we should all be able to agree that the health insurance industry offers terrible customer service.

    1. Yes. Working in the industry (albeit at a removed place), I've come to hate our current administrator (we're self-insured).
Old company, had like no problems ever.
New company, like 50 problems in the first six months. Sure, I had a kid in those six months, but I also had two kids in the prior nine years with the old company.

Their service has gotten "better" since then. From horrible to just bad. But at least the fear of figuring out what the hell I need to do to get it paid is now not as bad as the fear of leaving medical issues untreated and immunizations skipped. I suspect that was one of their ways of keeping utilization down. And people giving up and paying what should have been covered kept costs down, too.

    1. Pavs is getting a WGOM HOF vote from me, when it comes time. Only 17 WAR, but giving the Yankees 0.4 in the middle of it in exchange for $38M makes me happy.
May he have good luck moving on the the next stage of his life.

  6. 76ers to buy out Danny Granger. The 4ltr speculates he will land with the Clippers or Spurs. I would love to see him with the Spurs.
