TOLEDO 6, ROCHESTER 3 IN TOLEDO
Batting stars: Chris Herrmann was 3-forr-5 with a double annd ann RRBI. Deibinson Romero was 0-for-3 with three walks and a run.
Pitching stars: Edgar Ibarra pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout. Deolis Guerra struck out two in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars: Jordan Lennerton was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice. Tyler Collins was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. Drew VerHagen pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game: Toledo scored five in the second to put it away early. A walk and a single-and-error scored the first run. Another walk and another single made it 2-0. Another single and a ground out made it 3-0, a wild pitch scored the fourth run, and another error plated the fifth. It was 6-0 before Rochester scored in the sixth inning on a Doug Bernier RBI single. In the seventh, three walks preceded a Herrmann two-runn sinngle that made it 6-3. The Red Wings drew three walks in the ninth, loading the bases with two out, but could not score.
Of note: Eric Farris was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Pedro Florimon was 0-for-2 with two walks. Starter Alex Meyer pitched four innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
NEW BRITAIN 7, BOWIE 6 IN BOWIE
Batting stars: Brandon Waring was 2-for-5 with a home run (his third) and four RBIs. Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with a home run (his fifth) and two RBIs. Kennys Vargas was 3-for-5 with a home run, his seventh.
Pitching star: Cole Johnson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: David Freitas was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer. Chih-Hsien Chiang was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and a walk. Daniel Alvarez was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his sixth.
The game: As you can tell, home runs were important in this game. Waring hit a three-run shot in the second, but it was answered by Freitas' three-run homer to make it 3-3 after two. Vargas and Rodriguez went back-to-back in the third, followed by a Waring RBI single to give New Britain a 6-3 lead. Chiang homered in the bottom of the third, but the Rock Cats got the run back in the fourth when Rodriguez delivered an RBI single. It stayed 7-4 until the eighth, when Alvarez hit a two-run homer to get Bowie back into the game. They did not get the tying run into scoring position, however, getting only a one-out single in the ninth.
Of note: Corey Wimberly was 1-for-5. Nate Hanson was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run. Starter Virgil Vasquez struck out seven in six innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks.
JUPITER 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS
Batting star: Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars: Jason Wheeler pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on ten hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Steven Gruver pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout. Brett Lee pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Terrence Dayleg was 4-for-5 with a run. Austin Barnes was 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Austin Brice pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
The game: A pair of singles and a ground out produced a run for Fort Myers in the first. The Miracle never got a man past first base again. The one run held up for a while, but in the fourth Barnes led off with a double and scored on a pair of singles to tie it up. In the seventh, Matt Juengel tripled in a run and scored on a ground out to make it 3-1, which was as much as Jupiter needed.
Of note: Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Mike Gonzales was 1-for-4. Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk. Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3.
WISCONSIN 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN WISCONSINM
Batting stars: Chad Christensen was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring twice. Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Pitching star: Yorman Landa pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Chris McFarland was 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run (his sixth), scoring twice. Omar Garcia was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Victor Diaz struck out seven in five innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks.
The game: Christensen doubled and Mitch Garver singled to put Cedar Rapids on the board in the first. Wisconsin tied it in the second and scored three times in the third. Two of the runs scored on wild pitches. The Kernels did not get much going on offense after that, never getting the tying run on base.
Of note: J. D. Williams was 0-for-5. Garver was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Tanner Vavra was 1-for-3. Starter Ryan Eades pitched 2.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks with one strikeout.
