Minor Details: Games of May 22

Rochester wins a pitcher's duel.  Poor starting pitching in the rest of the games.  Adam Brett Walker II hits his eight homer.

ROCHESTER 2, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Batting stars:  Brad Nelson was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Alex Meyer struck out five in 5.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks.  Yohan Pino struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up four hits.  Michael Tonkin pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Zelous Wheeler was 2-for-5 with two doubles and a walk.  Ramon Flores was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Matt Tracy pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Rochester did not have a hit until the fifth and there was no score until the sixth, when Eric Fryer doubled and scored on an Oswaldo Arcia single.  S/WB got the run back in the bottom of the sixth, but Nelson homered in the seventh to make it 2-1 Red Wings.  The RailRiders opened the seventh with two singles, opened the eighth with a single and a double, and got a two-out double in the ninth, but did not score.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 1-for-4.  Arcia was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-4 with a double.  Josh Willingham was 1-for-4, raising his average to .150 (3-for-20).

RICHMOND AT NEW BRITAIN

The game was suspended in the bottom of the second with no score.  Virgil Vasquez has struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

DUNEDIN 7, FORT MYERS 5 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his eighth.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Mike Gonzales was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.

Pitching stars:  Mason Melotakis pitched three innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk.  Steven Gruver pitched a scoreless inning with a walk.

Opposition stars:  Derrick Chung was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Dalton Pompey was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Emilio Guerrero was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The game:  Dunedin got one in the first and two in the second to go up 3-0.  An error put Fort Myers on the board in the fourth, but the Blue Jays got three in the bottom of the fourth on Chung's RBI double and a two-run single by Guerrero to make the score 6-1.  It went to 7-1 after five, but the Miracle got back into the game with a four-run sixth.  Walker II had a two-run homer and Gonzales a solo shot in the inning.  That was where the good news ended, though, as Fort Myers only got one man on base in the final three innings.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-4.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Starter Alex Wimmers pitched four innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

QUAD CITIES 11, CEDAR RAPIDS 6, IN QUAD CITIES

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two runs.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Jared Wilson struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Brett Phllips was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Conrad Gregor was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Tyler White was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one.

The game:  Each team scored once in the second.  With two out in the top of the third, Chad Christensen singled and Garver and Haar hit back-to-back RBI doubles to put Cedar Rapids ahead 3-1.  Quad Cities roared back with six in the bottom of the third to take control of the game.  Gregor hit a two-run double and Ronnie Mitchell had a three-run homer in the inning.  They added three more in the fourth, getting two doubles, a triple, and a single, to go ahead 10-3.  The Kernels never got closer than five runs after that.

Of note:  Ryan Walker was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Christensen was 1-for-5 with a run.  Starter Aaron Slegers pitched three innings, surrendering ten runs on fourteen hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
