Minor Details: Games of May 23

A split for Twins affiliates.  Familiar names lead Rochester.  Solo homers decide two of the four games.

ROCHESTER 7, SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 1 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Josh Willingham was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Eric Farris was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Mike Pelfrey pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks with no strikeouts.  Deolis Guerra struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Ramon Flores was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  Ex-Twin Antoan Richardson was 2-for-2 with a walk.

The game:  A double, a single, and two walks put Rochester on the board in the second.  Willingham hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 3-0 and Arcia hit a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 6-0 and put the game away.

Of note:  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-4 with a walk.

BINGHAMTON 3, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN BINGHAMTON

Batting stars:  Corey Wimberly was 2-for-4 with a run.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching star:  Taylor Rogers pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Plawecki was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his third), driving in two.  Travis Taijeron was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Tyler Pill pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  After each team scored once in the fourth, Kyle Johnson singled in a run in the fifth to give Binghamton a 2-1 lead.  Brad Boyer doubled in a run in the eighth to tie it, but Plawecki homered in the bottom of the eighth to put the Mets up 3-2.  New Britain went down in order in the ninth.

Of note:  Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a run.

FORT MYERS 4, DUNEDIN 2 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5 with a home run, his third.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a home run, his ninth.

Pitching stars:  Jason Wheeler pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert pitched two shutout innings, giving up a walk.  Tyler Jones pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition star:  Marcus Knecht was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Walker II homered to put Fort Myers on the board in the second.  Mejia singled in a run in the third to make it 2-0.  Dunedin got single runs in the fourth and fifth to tie it at two.  Polanco homered in the sixth to put the Miracle back in front and two singles, a walk, and a hit batsman, all coming with two out in the seventh, gave Fort Myers and insurance run.  The Blue Jays did not get a hit after the fifth inning.

Of note:  Travis Harrison was 1-for-4.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk.

QUAD CITIES 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting stars:  Jason Kanzler was 1-for-4 with a double.  Joel Licon was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Alex Muren pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Todd Van Steensel pitched two shutout innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Brett Phillips was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in four.  Brian Holberton was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Thomas Lindauer was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.

The game:  All the runs were scored in two innings, a five-run third and a four-run fourth.  In the third, Phillips had a two-run single and Holberton had a two-run double.  Phillips hit a two-run homer in the fourth.  Cedar Rapids did not get a hit until the fourth.  Their best scoring chance came in the fifth, when Licon led off with a single, Ivory Thomas drew a one-out walk, and Engelb Vielma was hit by a pitch with two down to load the bases.  A strikeout ended the inning.

Of note:  Ryan Walker was 0-for-4.  Chad Christensen was 0-for-4.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-4.  Starter Ryan Eades pitched 3.2 innings, giving up nine runs on ten hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

    1. Probably be a while. He has nine homers, but he's only hitting .229. He's hitting .300 with four homers over his last ten games, though, so maybe he's starting to adjust to the higher level after a slow start.
