Minor Details: Games of June 10

A big day for Chris Colabello.  Super pitching from Tim Shibuya.  Five RBIs for Stephen Wickens.

ROCHESTER 7, GWINNETT 4 IN GWINNETT

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once.  James Beresford was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Pressly struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Aaron Thompson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Brandon Boggs was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his third.  Tyler Pastornicky was 2-for-5 with a triple and a run.  Christian Bethancourt was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

The game:  Colabello doubled and scored on a Chris Rahl single to give Rochester a 1-0 lead in the second.  In the third, the Red Wings scored four times to take control of the game.  Pedro Florimon homered, Colabello singled in a run, and Wilkin Ramirez brought home two on a sacrifice fly-plus-error.  Gwinnett never got closer than within three runs after that.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 0-for-5.  Florimon was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his second.  Trevor May started and pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 5, READING 4 IN READING

Batting stars:  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4 with a home run (his tenth) and two RBIs.  Brandon Waring was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.  Tony Thomas was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Duffey pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Daniel Turpen pitched a perfect inning.  Lester Oliveros struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Alonzo was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Brock Stassi was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  Sam Fuld led off the game with a home run to give New Britain a 1-0 lead.  Stassi's RBI double and a run-scoring single by Sebastian Valle made it 2-1 Reading.  Thomas singled in a run in the second to tie it up at two.  Eddie Rosario walked and scored in the fifth to give the Rock Cats a 3-2 lead and Vargas homered in the eighth to make it 4-2.  The Fightin Phils came back to tie it in the eighth on Aaron Altherr's single-plus-error with the bases loaded.  In the ninth, Thomas laid down a bunt single and scored all the way from first on a Matt Koch single to center to give New Britain their final lead.

Of note:  Fuld was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Rosario was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

FORT MYERS 10, CHARLOTTE 0 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-4 with a triple and a grand slam, scoring twice and driving in five.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  Stuart Turner was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya pitched seven innings, giving up two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Alex Wimmers had a perfect perfect inning, striking out the side.  B. J. Hermsen pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Goeddel was 1-for-4 with a double.  Jose Alberto Molina struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.

The game:  Wickens had an RBI triple and came around to score to give Fort Myers a 2-0 lead in the first.  It stayed 2-0 until the fifth, when the Miracle scored eight runs to put the game away.  Two walks and an error made it 4-0.  Two more walks loaded the bases and Wickens hit a grand slam to make it 8-0.  A single, an error, and a walk re-loaded the bases.  Turner singled in a run and a sacrifice fly brought home one more to give Fort Myers a 10-0 lead.  Shibuya had a no-hitter for six innings before giving up two singles in the seventh.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

QUAD CITIES 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Chad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a run.  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Josue Montanez struck out six in 2.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits.  Chris Mazza struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Brett Phillips was 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs.  Chase McDonald was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Michael Feliz struck out four in four innings of relief, allowing two hits.

The game:  Two singles and an error resulted in two Quad Cities runs in the first.  An error got Cedar Rapids on the board in the bottom of the first.  It was still 2-1 until the fourth, when Bret Booth tripled in two for the River Bandits.  A wild pitch brought home one in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2, but Cedar Rapids got single runs in the fifth and seventh to take control of the game.

Of note:  Ryan Walker was 0-for-4.  Bryan Haar was 1-for-4 with a double.  Starter Aaron Slegers pitched 4.1 innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 5, DSL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Edwin Franco was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jorge Andrade was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Jose Ramirez pitched five shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts.  Randolph Perez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jose Lopez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Rafael Pujols pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when Franco brought home two with a single-plus-error and Andrade tripled in another to make it 3-0.  Gerson Jimenez delivered a two-run single in the seventh to make it 3-2.  In the eighth, Ramon Hernandez singled in the tying run and later came around to score the go-ahead run on an error.  The Twins had only one hit after the fifth.

Of note:  Roni Tapia was 0-for-4.  Eugenio Diaz was 0-for-4.
