Those of us who like/need to go to bed early are not big fans of all the fireworks on and around the Fourth of July.
Those of us who are canine ditto this comment.
Likewise the feline. Ours was cowering under the coffee table much of last night.
I've yet to hear any, but that's because the thunderstorms came in full force last night and it rained for about three hours, right when fireworks would have been likely. I sat out on my patio the entire time it rained. A DJ mentioned it was the first time it had rained in Phoenix for four months, not two as I'd guessed.
Yeesh, Phoenix kind of sounds like an awful place. Rain is about the only thing I truly enjoy about summer. (Ok, so grilling is pretty great too.)
My best friend lived in Flagstaff for about a decade. He tellingly referred to Phoenix as Sphincter.
Happy Independence Day, citizens! Today I'm going to drink considerably more beer than I should until my judgement is properly impaired, ingest an unhealthy amount of fatty meats and salted carbohydrates, operate atmosphere polluting and potentially dangerous lawn care machinery, and detonate small explosive devices in close proximity to my body. Because freedom.
Djokovic-Dmitrov going to a tiebreak in the third set right now on ESPN after splitting the first two sets. It's been a pretty exciting match so far.
Those of you in the Twin Cities, if you needed to feed a group of 11 people tonight, ranging in age from 3 to 82, what restaurants come to mind for getting takeout? Must be vegetarian friendly, though some meat is also fine. I'm thinking it'll be easier to order a selection of dishes for the group, rather than each person ordering their own item.
I was thinking Brasa seemed a good bet--a number of vegetarian items, delicious meat, family sized portions, but it appears they're closed on the Fourth. You might find a lot of that today. How about Asian? Thanh Do, maybe?
Yeah, Brasa would have been ideal. We ended up going with Filfillah, and it seemed to work well for everyone. We were able to get several big platters and now have ridiculous quantities of leftovers.
I think I just caught some of "Massive Nights" in the home run derby commercial.
Sweet Baby Mauer, I thought I forgot to make my picks for the Round of 8.
Some guy named Blake Snell has 7 Ks in 3 IP and no hits allowed vs. Ft. Myers. Jose Berrios has allowed 1 unearened run in 4 IP w/ 4 Ks.
Never a dull moment in H'fordistan...

OUTSIDE THE BOX: Artists Take on City Utility Boxes
The City of Hartford invites Greater Hartford artists to make art of overlooked urban forms.
The "Outside the Box" program, coordinated by the Mayors Livable Sustainable Neighborhoods Initiative (LSNI), and City of Hartford's Marketing, Events and Cultural Affairs Division (MECA) is geared towards the recognition and celebration of local artists.
