  1. T minus one hour until takeoff to Miami. Don't let the place fall apart.

Shall the plane crash, I bequeath Half-Baked Hall duties to Rhubarb.

    1. Oh, and I still have 5 free passes to my standup comedy performance on July 22 if anyone wants them. Just respond here today if you're interested.

  2. I couldn't tell you the last time I read something he wrote, so someone else will have to confirm this, but according to the Twitters Top Jimmy wrote that AJ Pierzynski should be part of the All Star Game.

    1. I confirmed it last night ... but only "part of" the ASG weekend, not that he deserves to play in it. It was part of a longer piece about former Twins who he thinks would have been fun to see at the park or around town. It's more of the same, though he does start out with saying he wished Pucket and Killer could be around...then goes trolling/stoopid:

He drove the Twins crazy while becoming one of their most important players. He drove the Giants crazy, and they dumped him. He drove the White Sox crazy even as he helped them win a title. He drove the Red Sox so crazy they dumped him this week.
I believe the DH should be a part of the game, and Pierzynski is an All-Star Designated Heckler*.

*emphasis mine - this guy gets paid to write?

  3. So the @FloridaMan Twitter feed always cracks me up with latest (in generally, stupid illegal) newstories about men down in Florida, but this might be the best of all time:

    1. I am very surprised. No problem with it, if that's what he wants to do, but I am very surprised.

      1. I was a bit surprised, but seeing how badly the Heat were beaten by the Spurs, perhaps he saw the writing on the wall? Maybe this means KLub will come back to the Wolves in 2018 to make amends, having won his championships elsewhere.

          1. Agreed. Been reading through the Love trade discussion thread over at Canis and realized I didn't know how much was still up in the air as long as James was still available.

        1. Not surprised at all. Hometown kid returns is a typical sports move. Only wrinkle here is how he left, not that he left. And he was a lot younger four years ago. That he discovered some maturity in his mid twenties is even less surprising. Good for him. I hope they end Cleveland's futility.

            1. RE: SBG - not a clue. Was thinking the same thing a few weeks back when discussing pizza dough.

              1. there was an SBG sighting on teh Twitters today. Also this:

            2. Heh. Truth be told, I kind of do too. But eventually it'd be nice to see James win one in Cleveland.

Also, my originally comment seems to come off badly upon my re-reading it. I apologize. The tone was unintended - I was typing hastily while trying to put kids down for naps.

              1. I wouldn't mind seeing him win one for the Cavs eventually, but not next year. I'm more interested in a repeat for SA to cement their status as one of the all-time great squads, and Popovich as one of the greatest coaches. After all, they're a lucky Ray Allen trey from going after a 3-peat.

Also, I couldn't be happier that Miami's classy fan base is going back into the toilet. When they started streaming out en masse with over three minutes to play in Game 4, it really drove home how they never deserved anything nice. Front-running jack asses.

          1. Hometown kid returns is a typical sports move.

Granted. It's just that until a week ago, I was not under the impression that going back to Ohio meant much to James. If I was wrong, fine. As I said, I have no problem with it. I was just surprised by it.

  4. It's official. The verdict is in. Yes, it was flu. Mrs. SoCal has it now. Oh the joy. Hopefully, it has run its course in our family now. We're hoping it started with Trey, who threw up one night but didn't seem to be very sick, at least in comparison with everyone else. The only good news is it appears to be just a 24-hour bug.

  5. I'm leaving for a quick trip to Nashville in a few hours. Big footy matches against Nashville and Columbus, OH tomorrow afternoon, 7AM flight back to Austin on Sunday, back in time for the World Cup final. Total time in Nashville: <36 hours.

    1. Yazoo brewing and Layla's blue grass inn are both quality places to spend some minutes of your short trip.

  6. Mentioned it here the other day, but it's worth throwing out there again:

I'm heading to the Futures Game + Celebrity Softball game on Sunday. I believe tickets are still available at good prices. Apparently it is also tradition for the host organization to have the two starting pitchers, if possible. Berrios and Meyer are on the squads (I believe it is Meyer now, who subbed in for May, who subbed in for some other guy...). Also, last I saw, Kevin Love was still on a celebrity softball team, and I look forward to booing him mercilessly.

    1. Kevin Love was still on a celebrity softball team

Unsurprisingly, he dropped out. Adrian Peterson and JI JIM THOME are still on the roster, though.

        1. Heh, I did refresh- I've got a long track record of being the repeat commenter.

            1. I think he dropped out at least a week ago. With all the rumors about him being traded here or there, he maybe wasn't sure if he'd be here or not.
