Game 94: Twins @ Rockies

In the final game before the All-Star break, the Twins are about where I expected them to be: at the bottom of the AL Central and below .500. However, a win here today would close out the second series win and a 5-2 record on the road trip. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

Today, Phil Hughes is looking to pick up where he left off in Seattle. He'll be facing off against Brett Anderson.

    1. That title is misleading- it should have been, "The Twins 2012 rotation was exactly as bad as you thought it was". I admit, I had some hope for Diamond, Hendriks and Deduno, but I wasn't hoping for anything more than average.

  1. Really lousy baserunning from dozier. I mean, I guess it can pay to be aggressive, but there's just so many ways that ca n go wrong

    1. Yeah, he compounded one mistake with another. First not going, then going. In the end, it didn't cost the Twins anything because there was going to be a double play regardless and the runner that replaced Dozier, Morales, scored that inning anyways.

    1. Those numbers are getting closer together kinda quickly. That isn't reassuring.

    1. Jason Tyner was listed as 6'1", 170. Is Fuld smaller, in your recollection of the Tyny Dancer?

      1. Tyner definitely was scrawnier, and 6'1" seems about right for him. OTOH, Fuld doesn't seem much bigger than Revere.

Escobar is listed at exactly the same height and weight as Fuld. At some point I'd like to see them standing side-by-side.

  2. I really wonder what kind of music Roy Smalley actually does listen to. Dick's been listing a lot of easy listening stuff, which seems to make Roy recoil in horror.

I'm envisioning Roy subscribing to Cheaptoy's Pandora station.

  3. Suzuki just sprung up, planted and threw a good, strong throw to cut down the stolen base attempt.

I'm half shocked that he was able to do any of those things after that last inning.

  4. You know, if I were awake for this entire game, the Twins would have had 37 runs. I slept through the no runs scored, give up 5 part.

  5. You might have guessed that Smalley's cycle story didn't happen the way he remembered it. He did come up needing a double for his cycle, but he actually walked in his fourth (and last) plate appearance on July 19, 1982.

If the story did happen as he said, it at the very least didn't happen while he was with the Yankees.

        1. But Colorado "leads" by a substantial margin. Only team with an ERA over 5.00. Yikes. Thermador is broken?

    1. Apparently, the difference between the Rockies' and Twins' bullpens is greater than the difference between the Rockies' and Twins' lineups (minus DHs).

      1. per statcorner.com, Twins relievers are 4.13 xRA, -1.6 RAA, 241/295/362 slash line in 1,253 PA. Rockies relievers are 4.17, -12.1, slash line of 270/337/426 in 1,369 PA.

Wow, that's a HUGE difference in slash lines.

        1. That's the difference between David Murphy (.243/.305/.366) this season versus Matt Kemp (.269/.330/.430). -2 versus +6 runs so far this season, so almost a win difference.

    1. It's a rare event, for sure- I think it's his third or maybe fourth this year with men on.

  6. I'd like to have seen Plouffe get a cycle, but lets not give up an eight-run inning just to give him a chance, okay?

            1. Losing the ALCS 4-1 after going 162-0 and sweeping the ALDS would be heartbreaking. 2024 is their year!
