NORFOLK 3, ROCHESTER 2 IN NORFOLK
Batting stars: Deibinson Romero was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one. James Beresford was 2-for-4.
Pitching star: Alex Meyer pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Cord Phelps was 3-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and three RBIs. Quintin Berry was 1-for-2 with two walks. Josh Stinson pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game: With two out in the first, Romero walked and scored on a Pinto double to put Rochester ahead 1-0. In the fourth, Romero got a leadoff single, advanced to second on a walk, and scored on an error to make it 2-0. Phelps homered in the fifth to cut the lead to 2-1. It was still 2-1 going to the bottom of the ninth. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with none out and Phelps singled to right to drive in both the tying and winning runs.
Of note: Eric Farris was 0-for-4. Pedro Florimon was 0-for-3.
NEW BRITAIN 6, READING 3 IN READING
Batting stars: Tony Thomas was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth), a double, and a walk, driving in two. Aaron Hicks was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his ninth.
Pitching stars: Adrian Salcedo pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Mason Melotakis struck out two in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars: Jake Fox was 3-for-4 with a home run (his ninth) and a double, driving in two. Aaron Altherr was 1-for-3 with a home run (his eighth) and a hit-by-pitch.
The game: Thomas led off the game with a home run to give New Britain a 1-0 lead. Kvasnicka hit a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 3-0. Reading got on the board in the fourth when Kelly Dugan doubled and scored on a Fox single, but the Rock Cats went up 5-1 in the fifth when Hicks doubled in a run and later scored on an error. Back-to-back homers by Fox and Altherr cut the lead to 5-3 in the sixth, but that was as close as the Fightin Phils got. Thomas closed out the scoring with an RBI double in the seventh. Reading did bring the tying run up to bat with two out in the eighth, but a ground out ended the threat.
Of note: Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run. Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch. Starter Pat Dean pitched six innings, giving three runs on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.
DAYTONA 11, FORT MYERS 7 IN DAYTONA (17 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Byron Buxton was 4-for-6 with a two-run homer (his third), two walks, and a hit-by-pitch, scoring three times. Jorge Polanco was 5-for-8 with a two-run homer (his sixth) and a walk, scoring twice. Nate Roberts was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching stars: Brett Lee pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and six walks with no strikeouts. Alex Wimmers struck out three in two perfect innings. Brandon Peterson struck out six in three shutout innings, giving up two walks.
Opposition stars: Kyle Schwarber was 2-for-5 with a home run and two walks, scoring twice. Willson Contreras was 2-for-7 with a home run (his second), a double, and a walk, scoring twice. Rock Shoulders was 1-for-3 with a grand slam, his eighth homer.
The game: The first four Fort Myers batters reached base, including a two-run double by Roberts and an RBI double by Dalton Hicks, to put the Miracle up 3-0. Bijan Rademacher had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first, but Buxton hit a two-run homer in the second to make it 5-1. It went to 7-1 in the top of the sixth on a Polanco two-run homer. That was the last run Fort Myers got, however, and Daytona slowly came back. Wes Darvill singled in a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Cubs got three in the seventh, Schwarber homered in the eighth, and Contreras homered in the ninth, tying the score at seven. The Miracle had chances, getting a man as far as third base in the tenth, twelfth, and seventeenth, but did not score. In the bottom of the seventeenth, two singles and a walk loaded the bases and Shoulders hit a walkoff grand slam for Daytona.
Of note: Hicks was 1-for-9 with a double and an RBI. Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-8 with a walk. Max Kepler was 2-for-7 with a double and a run. Fort Myers had 23 hits but stranded 20, going 4-for-19 with men in scoring position.
CEDAR RAPIDS 6, LAKE COUNTY 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (11 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Logan Wade was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Michael Quesada was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his third. Chad Christensen was 4-for-5 with a double.
Pitching stars: Aaron Slegers pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Dallas Gallant struck out five in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Jake Reed pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Claudio Bautista was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one. Mike Papi was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two walks. Anderson Polanco struck out four in three innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits.
The game: Quesada hit a three-run homer in the fourth to give Cedar Rapids a 4-1 lead. Bryan Haar doubled and scored to make it 5-1 in the sixth. Lake County came back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four times on Bautista's RBI double, Clint Frazier's run-scoring single, and Papi's two-run homer to tie the score at five. Each team got a man to third in the ninth, but there was no more scoring until the eleventh. Wade doubled with one out, went to third on a Christensen infield single, and scored on another infield grounder to win the game.
Of note: Engleb Vielma was 0-for-6. Mitch Garver was 0-for-6 with an RBI. Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Jason Kanzler was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
ELIZABETHTON 4, PRINCETON 2 IN PRINCETON
Batting stars: Max Murphy was 2-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and a walk. Jeremias Pineda was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Pitching stars: C. K. Irby struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits. Dereck Rodriguez pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Thomas Milone was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Riley Unroe was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Patrick Grady was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The game: RBI singles by Grady and Nick Ciuffo put Princeton ahead 2-0. Elizabethton got on the board in the third on a Pineda homer. In the fifth, Tyler Kuresa delivered a two-out two-run single to put the Twins ahead 3-2. They added a run in the eighth when Murphy homered. The Rays loaded the bases with two out in the second and had men on second and third with two out in the fifth, but did not threaten after that.
Of note: Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a run. Kuresa was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Starter Felix Jorge struck out seven in 4.2 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks.
GCL TWINS 4, GCL RED SOX 2 AT RED SOX
Batting stars: Joel Ramirez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run. Dubal Baez was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Manuel Guzman was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Pitching stars: Alexis Tapia struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk. Seth Wagner retired all five men he faced, striking out one. Trevor Hildenberger struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Josh Ockimey was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Michael Kopech struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
The game: Ockimey singled in a run in the first and Ryan Lavarnway doubled in one in the third. The score remained 2-0 until the seventh. A pair of walks and an error brought home the first Twins run. Baez then singled in one to tie it up, Guzman singled in another to put the Twins ahead, and a passed ball allowed an insurance run to score. The Red Sox got only one hit after the fifth inning, a two-out single in the ninth.
Of note: Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run. Rainis Silva was 1-for-4. Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-3 with a walk. Starter Josh Guyer struck out four in three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.
DSL ORIOLES1 4, DSL TWINS 2 AT TWINS
Batting stars: Lewin Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jorge Andrade was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars: Williams Ramirez pitched five shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Johan Quezada pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and four walks with one strikeout. Juan Herrera struck out three in 1.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on no hits and no walks.
Opposition stars: Raul Acosta was 0-for-1 with three walks. Victor Mesa struck out three in two perfect innings.
The game: Diaz doubled in a run in the first and Antonio Tovar singled in one in the third to give the Twins a 2-0 lead. The Orioles1 did not get a man on base until the fourth and did not get a hit until the ninth. They did not need a hit to score in the eighth, cutting the lead to 2-1 on a hit batsman, an error, and a wild pitch. In the ninth, a walk and a single put two on and an error tied the score, leaving men on second and third with none out. A fielder's choice put the Orioles1 ahead and a sacrifice fly made it 4-2. The Twins went down in order in the ninth and did not get a hit after the third.
Of note: Junior Amarante was 0-for-4 with a run. Tovar was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Luis Arraez was 0-for-4.

Yep, looks like they're just about ready for the big leagues.
I am excited that Buxton has started hitting. After going 2-for-15 in his first five games off the disabled list, he's gone 9-for-15 with a triple and two home runs in the next three. Small sample sizes, obviously, but I'm still glad to see it.
If he's healthy, I think he's too good to get stuck in a slump. The trick will be for the medical staff to keep him healthy.
