August 9, 2014: Mother’s Side

When I was a kid I was withdrawn and quiet (yeah, me neither) but my daughters have several best friends just one week into their time at a new school, and are both already involved in extra-curriculars. Not sure why I was an introvert for so long.

  1. If Josmil Pinto is still the catcher of the future, and if his biggest problem is defense, why is he DHing so much? In forty percent of his games in Rochester, he's been the DH. I'm not a coach or a player development guy, but if you want him to work on his defense, wouldn't you, I don't know, have him playing defense a lot? Maybe there's a reason for this, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

    1. I am starting to think he is not the catcher of the future and thats why the Twins were aggressive in extending Kurt Suzuki's contract.

      1. I still think he could be the catcher of the future, but I'm starting to think the Twins don't see it that way.

    2. Well, for his career, he's been in 624 minor league games and been the catcher in 380 of them, which is roughly 60%, so his usage hasn't really changed. I'm not sure what the norm is for minor league catchers, but my would guess would be that, that might be pretty typical for starting catchers to prevent them from wearing out.

      1. Between the majors and the minors, Pinto has caught 39 games this year. I don't think we're wearing him out.

        1. Well, the reason he was sent down was because he wasn't getting playing time. I think the Twins should bring up Pinto so he can split time with Suzuki. Pinto can learn at the highest level and the Twins can keep from Suzuki wearing down now that he's been signed to an extension.

  2. A combination of the Twins being not good and a West Coast trip equals my twitter timeline being filled with way to much NFL talk. puke.

      1. Sheenie's mom told me that I needed to make arrangements for her to be able to watch all the Saints games at my house this fall since she'll be up "helping" with the baby. Um, how about no.

        1. Time to cancel the cable (if you have it), just in case.

          Also,what mags and meat said.

    1. I must have selected whoIfollow pretty well because I only really get much NFL crap from Phil Mackey and Darren Wolfson. Hopefully it stays that way. Ah well, another 15-20 years (or less, if the league keeps on as it's been recently) and I probably won't have to soft through any of that chatter.

  3. As was briefly discussed yesterday, I'll be restarting the WGOM Fantasy Premier League. It will be a classic (total points accumulated over the season) style unless a bunch of you speak up and want head-to-head weekly matchups. DG is already on board as one vote for "classic". Y'all have through Sunday to speak up, I'm starting the league first thing Monday. First games are the 16th.

  4. Thanks to everyone who's gotten in touch with me about BKAC episodes. Sorry I've been tardy in getting back to you all. Look for emails this weekend.

  5. Reposted from FB:

Three of my Crows teammates are in Australia competing for the USA int eh International Cup. If anyone is looking for anything to do this evening, they play Finland at 6:30PM Central. It can be streamed here: http://www.afl.com.au/global/aflic14/streaming

Keep an eye out for Christian Merritt, Ben Carpenter-Nwanyanwu, and Jeff Talmadge. Proud of my boys. Carn the Revos!

    1. I'm really glad it's Alexei Ramirez. That guy bothers me. Also, that was excellent.

  6. An update on my Virginia creeper saga: I got almost all of it out of the tree today. It was worse than I thought, but felt good to get it done. I've only got an after picture, though. Really should have taken a before.

That was about 2/3 of what I pulled out. It's like a whole new tree!

  7. Whoo man, the lawn is still real lush considering the time of year. Lots of frogs, and lots of harvesters* since I mowed last week.

*I'm guessing you probably use the more common name.

  8. In New Yawk CitTAY. Just finished a deliciously greasy cubano. Mmmmm.

Also, got rid of the rental car and discovered that the bus from Laguardia practically went straight to the bro-in-law's at the edge of Harlem and Morningside Heights. (119th St).

Also also, we scratched Cornell from the list.
