Is It Friday? It is, isn’t it?
It isn't Thursday.
Prove it.
Dang, for some reason my top ten email didn't make it through the webz. Hopefully it's in my outbox on computer at home so I will send it later. But a couple of notes:
That J Mascis "acoustic" album is really really good. And J is playing at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts of all places on October 9th. That might be worth checking out.
Sturgill Simpson will be playing in London while I am there (in fact one month from tonight 9/29). Do I go to that show? I have tix for the December 4th show here and it might be weird to not see him in the USA. There are a couple of other shows happening when I will be there. I'm on the fence for that one.
I don't know if anyone checked it out but the live stream of GBV last week on Yahoo was one for the ages. Pollard got really drunk (not a huge surprise, but he's been a lot better than in some earlier times). Some funny rants, playing I Am a Scientist twice, etc., ended with him falling on his ass singing the last song. Well the band decided it was the last song and left the stage. There is a big FB discussion group about all things GBV and it blew up into two camps: "That was embarassing, I'm concerned" in one corner and "dude lighten up it's rock and roll" in the other corner. I kinda fall in the former category.
J is playing at FunFunFunFest in November. The lineup isn't set yet so I don't know which day to buy a pass for, because I probably wouldn't by an entire 3-day pass. Hopefully I remember to check back occasionally.
I'll take the latter on Pollard's exploits. Seeing a 56-yr old fall down drunk just ain't that cool.
I've been holding off on the Mascis record for the time being, but will probably succumb at some point. Where at MiA is he playing, I wonder? Unfortunately, October 9th is also the night when Lucius comes to 1st Ave. That's where I hope to be.

Actually we are in the same boat, I also agree that seeing a 56 year old fall down drunk is not that cool. Doesn't former mean first and latter mean second?
I even thought about that before posting. Oops, my bad.
Pollard's unrepentant drunkenness was what soured me on the band during their first go around. Still love some of their records, but the drunk Uncle Bob shtick is played out.

Why are you posting your wife's Pandora playlist? 😉
You think my wife's this cool?!
I chuckled.
CoC has a Pandora station of called "Sofie's 1992 babysitting playlist that remind's her of Derek -- who is so dreamy"
This LTE might be the best thing I've ever read on this site.
See!? 1992 was a fabulous year in music.
Um, I didn't mean for it to be quite that large...
[editor's note] Sorry - someone had reduced this for you and I accidentally messed up the fix and can't repair it.
Serendipity...the Spotify mix I'm listening to just dropped this on me; a mash up of 1993's The Rhythm of the Night by Corona and 1992's Rhythm Is a Dancer by Snap!.
free, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this. My keyboard & monitor are thankful as well.
Needs more Ace of Base.
That's actually the Pandora station I was working from. Didn't realize until I hit song 4 that it wasn't pulling from any of my created stations. Take from that what you will.
This is essentially the Pandora station on at work the last three days. Which sucks because whichever station was on on Tuesday was awesome, with the Strokes and Clash and other shit to rock out to whilst stacking cat food tins.

7. Pretty pumped to see The Jayhawks live next weekend. CoC, I've got your ticket in my possession now.
Today's Star Tribune has a depressing article about the falling out between Gary Louris and Mark Olson.
Thanks for linking, I hadn't seen that one yet.
It's gonna be a good week. State Fair, 3-day weekend/Labor Day, Jayhawks on Friday, Dylan tickets on sale Saturday!

I need to whistle everytime I think of #6.
Also, that could be the Twins fan's theme song for the last three years
...and that Rilo Kiley song is a very good musical interpretation of bi polar disorder.
Well if no one else is gonna do it......
Needs more Ace of Base.
I will confess that, after seeing CoC's list, I went and added an Ace of Base seed to one of my catch-all Pandora stations, but they still haven't come up.

Good stuff here. Just heard the full Neck of the Woods in July and really enjoyed it. Nothing groundbreaking, but they sure seem to know what works for 'em.
Yeah, for a band with a lineage as painfully direct as theirs (I mean, when your initials are SP and your vocalist sounds as much like Billy Corgan as he does...) they've found some interesting ways to stretch against the walls of that box they started in, so to speak.
Well okay, fine then.

Nice list Rhu!

I listened to it tonight. Very solid stuff.
I am really looking forward to listening to this when I'm able. I'm a big fan of their first couple and sounds like this one is even better. Also a big fan of the occasional "FMD list all taken from one album" post.
heh.
I liked their first and somehow never listened to their second. I'm absolutely smitten with the new joint though. So sad they're not hitting Minneapolis (or Fargo, natch) on this tour.
