Amilcar Gaxiola may sound like a character on a science fiction show, but he pitched an excellent game for Mazatlan.

MAZATLAN 3, NAVOJOA 0 IN MAZATLAN

Navojoa:  Jon Weber (Detroit) was 2-for-4.  Rolando Acosta was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Luis De La O pitched two shutout innings, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Mazatlan:  Ryan Schimpf (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.  Heber Gomez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Amilcar Gaxiola pitched 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Schimpf hit a solo homer in the first and Mazatlan added two in the fifth.  Navojoa's biggest threat came in the seventh, when two singles put men on first and third with two out.
