Dominican Digest: Games of October 22

Lots of pitchers in Aguilas.  Walks and errors decide it in Este.  To four-run innings give Oriente an easy win.

AGUILAS 2, ESCOGIDO 1 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-3 for Escogido.

Escogido:  Ronny Paulino (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Buck Britton (Baltimore) was 2-for-4.  Ramon Garcia pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Aguilas:  Andy Marte (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Jonathan Villar (Houston) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Sugar Ray Marimon (Kansas City) pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Aguilas got both runs in the fourth.  Escogido scored one in the ninth, but the game ended on a walkoff caught stealing.  In a 2-1 game, the teams combined to use thirteen pitchers.  Six of the pitchers pitched less than one inning.

CIBAO 4, ESTE 1 IN ESTE (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Jeremias Pineda was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.

Cibao:  Wilson Betemit (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  Adrian Nieto (Washington) was 1-for-5 with a home run.  Brooks Raley (Angels) pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Este:  Yasmani Grandal (San Diego) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Dylan Axelrod (Cincinnati) struck out four in 4.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.

The game:  Each team scored once in the fifth.  Betemit's two-run single was the only hit in a three-run Cibao tenth which featured three walks and an error.

ORIENTE 11, LICEY 1 IN LICEY

Oriente:  Alex Valdez was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Yeison Asencio (San Diego) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Radhames Liz (Toronto) struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.

Licey:  Mel Rojas (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Ruben Sosa (Houston) was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Dionis Soriano pitched a perfect inning.

The game:  Valdez had a two-run single in a four-run fifth that broke a scoreless tie and gave Oriente all the runs they would need.  Oriente added four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
