Fall Festival: Games of October 28

Stanley earns laurels for Peoria.  Scottsdale can't pull of the surprise.  Two Twins have good days for Salt River.

SALT RIVER 14, GLENDALE 2 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.

Glendale:  Tim Anderson (White Sox) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Zac Reininger (Detroit) pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Salt River:  Evan Marzilli (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Vincent Velasquez (Houston) struck out six in five innings, allowing two runs on one hit and one walk.

The game: Leading 5-2 after five, Salt River scored nine in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  They sent fourteen men to the plate.  Kepler had a three-run triple in the inning.

PEORIA 2, MESA 1 IN MESA

Peoria:  Cody Stanley (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Edward Salcedo (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Miguel Almonte (Toronto) struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up no hits and three walks.

Mesa:  Cal Towey (Angels) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Dalton Pompey (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with two walks.  Tanner Peters (Oakland) struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  Peoria led off the eighth with three singles to break a 1-1 tie.  Stanley's RBI single drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run.

SURPRISE 4, SCOTTSDALE 3 IN SURPRISE

Scottsdale:  Elias Diaz (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Josh Bell (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Kyle Haynes (Yankees) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Surprise:  Hunter Renfroe (San Diego) was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a double, driving in two.  Jesse Winker (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Nick Howard (Cincinnati) pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  A pair of doubles led to a 2-0 lead for Surprise in the second.  It was 4-1 when RBI singles by Matt Reynolds (Mets) and Diaz cut it to 4-3 in the seventh.  Scottsdale had men on second and third with two out but could do no more damage.
