Adelaide: Mitch Dening (Boston) was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and two walks. Craig Maddox (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Troy Scott (Seattle) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.
Brisbane: Maxx Tissenbaum (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-3 with a home run and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three. Johnny Field (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a home run. Ryan Searle (Cubs) struck out twelve in 7.1 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.
The game: Brisbane led 5-2 after five and 6-2 after eight. Adelaide scored three in the ninth and had the bases loaded with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.
SYDNEY 7, PERTH 3 IN PERTH (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Twins: Markus Solbach started and pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts for Sydney.
Sydney: Will Swanner (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three. David Kandilas (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Perth: Tim Kennelly (Texas) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run. Jordan McDonald was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Liam Baron pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits with three strikeouts.
The game: Swanner had a two-run double in a four-run first. Sydney added two more in the second to make it 6-0 and put the game out of reach early.
PERTH 5, SYDNEY 0 IN PERTH (GAME 2)
Twins: Josh Guyer pitched a third of an inning, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks.
Sydney: Trent Oeltjen (Arizona) was 2-for-4. Luke Wilkins pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Perth: Allan de San Miguel (Baltimore) was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Tim Smith (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Scott Mitchinson (Oakland) pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.
The game: Perth scored single runs in each of the first two innings, then got three in the eighth. de San Miguel had a two-run single in the inning.
