Twins: Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-4 for Aragua.
Caracas: Blake Gailen was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. Daniel Mayora (Dodgers) was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Buddy Boshers (Angels) struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in seven innings.
Aragua: Jose Martinez (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, scoring twice. Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Doug Mathis (Tampa Bay) pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Aragua scored single runs in the first and second, but Caracas countered with single runs in the seventh and ninth. Martinez hit a one-out homer in the eleventh to end the game.
MAGALLANES 6, MARGARITA 5 IN MARGARITA (10 INNINGS)
Twins: Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run for Margarita.
Magallanes: Chris Dominguez (San Francisco) was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs. Frank Diaz was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Dustin Richardson (Angels) pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Margarita: Jose Osuna (Pittsburgh) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Wilfredo Tovar (Mets) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tyler Cravy (Milwaukee) pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
The game: Lew Ford (Baltimore) had a two-run single-plus-error in a five-run seventh that put Magallanes up 5-2. Margarita came right back with three in the bottom of the seventh, two scoring on Osuna's double, to tie it at five. Three singles produced the go-ahead run for Magallanes in the tenth.
ANZOATEGUI 7, LA GUAIRA 4 IN LA GUAIRA
Anzoategui: Brandon Allen (Mets) was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in three. Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 3-for-5 with a triple and a run. Jose Alvarez (Angels) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.
La Guaira: Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Tyler Henson (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring once. Enrique Gonzalez retired all five batters he faced, striking out one.
The game: Allen's three-run triple capped a six-run second that provided all the runs Anzoategui needed. La Guaira closed to 7-4 in the eighth but did not get a hit after that.
LARA 8, ZULIA 4 IN LARA
Zulia: Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run. Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Kristhiam Linares (St. Louis) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.
Lara: Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk, scoring three times. Jairo Perez (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk. Terry Doyle (Atlanta) struck out nine in six shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.
The game: Lara scored two in the second, two in the fourth, and two in the sixth to go ahead 6-0. Zulia got back into it with four in the seventh, but Lara got two more in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
