ARAGUA 6, LARA 4 IN ARAGUA
Twins: Eduardo Escobar was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two for Aragua.
Lara: Gabriel Noriega (Seattle) was 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Terry Doyle (Atlanta) struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.
Aragua: Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in one. Doug Mathis (Tampa Bay) pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
The game: Lara scored four in the sixth to go up 4-2, but Aragua got four of their own in the seventh to take the victory. Escobar's two-run double brought home the tying and go-ahead runs.
ZULIA 7, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN ANZOATEGUI
Twins: Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 for Anzoategui.
Zulia: Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in five. Carlos Moncrief (Cleveland) was 3-for-5 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one. Eric Marzec (Milwaukee) struck out eight in six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk.
Anzoategui: Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Brandon Allen (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one. Eric Niesen (Boston) struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing only a walk.
The game: Anzoategui led 3-0 after three, but Zulia tied it with three in the fifth and took control with four in the seventh. Altherr's three-run triple in the seventh broke the 3-3 tie.
CARACAS 13, LA GUAIRA 7 IN CARACAS
La Guaira: Jose Martinez was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run. Alex Cabrera was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his fifth. Alvin Herrera (Baltimore) retired all four batters he faced, striking out one.
Caracas: Ramon Cabrera (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with two walks, scoring three times and driving in one. Yorvit Torrealba (Cubs) was 2-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in three. Wilsen Palacios (Detroit) struck out three in three perfect innings.
The game: La Guaira scored two in each of the first two innings, but Caracas tied it with four in the second and went on to score three in the third and five in the fourth to take the easy win.
MAGALLANES 12, MARGARITA 3 IN MAGALLANES
Margarita: Josh Kroeger was 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Alberton Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a run.
Magallanes: Lew Ford (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring three times and driving in two. Luis Nunez (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice. Dustin Richardson (Angels) struck out seven in six innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk.
The game: Magallanes led 4-1 after five, then scored six in the seventh to put the game out of reach. They had two singles, four doubles, and Ford's triple in the inning.
