One of my favorite songs at Saturday's show was a moody, slowed down version of "Steve Earle" during the encore. She did it with the whole band that night, but this is the closest I could find to it.

This was a great show. I haven't yet listened to my recording, because I botched it badly I had it on "standby" for the first half of the show and somewhere in the second half, the batteries died. (It does not have replaceable batteries, I need to find portable USB power.) I'm pretty sure I have her solo songs and "Mile High". I hope I got part of the non-encore encore, which was the sludgy "Steve Earle" and... "More Like Them"? (Or was "MLT" her last solo song?)
I liked the Girls! more than I expected to, and bought their CD. A quick listen on the way home and my favorite song was their closer, "Sophomore", which I might have called "Girl/Boy Parts" (as an homage to Aphex Twin).
The Sudden Lovelies are OK, but a bit samey (You think this is just a nice country ballad? Well here comes a ... wait for it... loud stompy part! Bet you totally didn't see that coming because it's only the fifth song in a row where it happened.) They sound pretty great when the iPod's on Random.
I'll have to buy the Sudden Lovelies' song "Waxwing" because ever since my guest DJ week, I've been paying attention to songs about birds that are about particular kinds of birds. Like Peaking Lights' "Hey Sparrow", Horace Andy's "Skylarking", and Bonnie "Prince" Billy's "One with the Birds", which name-checks Purple Martins and Whip-Poor-Wills and Bobwhites and robins. I've also dabbled in a book about the relationships between species of crows and humans, so I'm thinking of artistic representations of birds in culture that actually reflect some knowledge of the birds. Anyone have any other songs I could add to that list?
This was a great show - thanks for the ticket guest dj!
More Like Them was with the whole band because I remember that they were really rockin' it. Was it the last song, where LL was writhing around on the ground at the end?
The three cohorts I brought along were barely familar with Lydia Loveless and had a blast. Always nice when that happens.
Yeah, "More Like Them" was the closer with her crawling on the floor at the end.
The block of songs with just her were "Crazy", "Everything's Gone", and a new one.
I checked my recording and it's not as bad as I feared. It's still 70 minutes despite missing what I felt was the bulk of the show.
How long did she play? Two hours? More? I've gotten over headliners that play short sets (Ha Ha Tonka, Zola Jesus, Animal Collective*, Black Dice), to the point where everything past the 90th minute feels like a treat.
I've got the first two minutes of "More Like Them". Which is disappointing, but at least I have all of the grunge "Steve Earle".
*I think on the MPP tour. I've stopped keeping up with them.
I also realized that I'd never brought my recording of her April Entry show into iTunes. So I'm listening to that for the first time right now.
I'd like to listen to both of those - if that could be arranged.

Given that you didn't have enough battery power to get the whole show, it sounds like you got a really excellent portion of it--would have been worse not to have gotten any of the non-encore encore stuff.
I think the review Scot linked to on Monday said she played for two hours. I usually have an accurate internal clock, but I had no idea how much time was passing while she played. The sign of a good show, obviously.
Crap, I had a long reply going and I got logged out.
It was about my internal set of recording ethics.
Relevant portion:
I'll try to get it drop-boxed here in a few days. Watch your emails.
I'll only share sets with people who were there (unless I decide otherwise). Please don't pass these around or anything. But you can like, play them for others.
You'll have to put up with hearing my "whoo"s and claps and some things that Can of Corn says to me.
Oh man...I hope I don't sound like a goober in that recording.
π
I don't know if I can even make it out.
BTW, it's not a problem. I'm not a concert-talker by nature, so I'm not really changing the way I behave when I know I'm recording. I don't want my recording to change the way you or anyone else enjoys the shows.
I'm suddenly glad I'm a pretty quiet concertgoer. π
I was there...if you don't mind sending it my way as well.
