Sour Cream is back at school after the longest layoff either of my kids have ever had.

I read this article last week and have been turning over some thoughts on the depressing banality of Twins fandom in the Target Field era.
On the Effectively Wild podcast this morning they were talking about the A's, who the hosts say are fighting a "war on two fronts" by simultaneously building for the present and the future (or attempting to). Here I am trying to maintain interest in a team whose primary strategy seems to be building for the past. The more I think about it, the more the Hunter move bugs me. It seems to be a cynical move to profit off of the nostalgia of the fan base.
It does not, on its surface, suggest the Twins front office has a high opinion of Twins fans. Though it's transparent, sadly it has already generated the buzz they are looking for. Even though that move does not make the outlook for wins a single bit better, and it looks as though the hope of 2014 is being punted another couple of years down the road at least, bringing Hunter in is going to put butts in seats. I guess when I think about it, I don't have that high of an opinion of the team's "Mauer is a pussy" fan base either.
Sorry for the negativity dump. On a positive note, Goofer rasslers are still #1.
Today's cup currently has a nice set of book-ends starting with "ugh, Twins" and ending with "Yay, Twins".
I'm eagerly awaiting the Terry Ryan/Brian Sabean erotic fan fiction
My favorite part is that they dumped the dirty Billy Beane story into a Word document so they could run a count on the usage of certain words.
I was growing in this feeling for a while. Then they extended Phil Hughes. Yup, 2015 will be painful. But then Hunter can retire, (probably be voted into the Hall of Fame because BBWAii!)(I'm conflicted. On the one hand... Hunter. On the other hand, Twins in the HOF!), and maybe 2016 will be bright and shiny.
wow he has more WAR than I expected. That said, the writers aren't voting him in
But the writers love him...
You clearly haven't played the game.
Aw jeez, I wish I'd thought of this response. Well done.
A little housecleaning:
2015 Guest DJs
We'll keep the 2015 DJ Call going through midnight Tuesday and pick them after that.
Father Knows Best
Going to need a new round of volunteers here as well. I'd ideally like to get at least 4-6 for now to keep down on the programming announcements. If you'd like to volunteer (as well as have any questions or timing preferences), let us know below.
Thanks, you guys.
I guess, yeah. FKB could be something. I don't know.
I'll take one in June or the fall. Empty nest is coming!
I have an article idea for FKB.
Oh, I don't think I mentioned it specifically, but just in case, first time DJ volunteers get first priority for weeks. It gets further convoluted as we go after that.
I'll take a FKB but schedule it out a ways.
Last time I volunteered for a FKB, I totally missed the deadline. I might be interested again, provided you give me a lot of advance warning.
Looks like you're over the 4-6, but I had an idea for one too, so I can volunteer.
I'm sure I could be excessively verbose on a FKB topic once again!
So, did anyone else see my boys finish the four-peat? That was pretty damned exciting.
I watched the whole thing. Best American football game of the weekend.
The last couple of minutes were crazy.
*sigh* yeah, I saw it. Too bad I was rooting for the other team.
Excellent game though. I knew ISU was in trouble when they scored with 1:38 to go. That was way too much time for something to happen.
That was, by far, the most exciting game that NDSU has had in a championship game during this run. NDSU isn't as good as they were last year, having lost 24 seniors and pretty much the entire coaching staff. They were good enough to go 15-1, crush a Big 12 team, and bring home the 'ship, though.
Dating back to 1985, NDSU has now won the last EIGHT championship games that they've played in. They were one 50 yard field goal with time running out (in 1984) from it being 10 in a row.
Had my best bowling day of the season today. 151, 175, 189 for a 515 series. First time over 500 this year. Even better, the last game I went without an open frame, the first time since I resumed bowling regularly a year and a half ago that I've done that.
I miss bowling.
It's one of the highlights of my week. I enjoy it more when I do well, of course, but even when I don't it's still fun.
Minnesota State Mankato is No. 1 in men's hockey for the first time in the school's history (Division I, anyways). This on the same weekend that Minnesota was swept by a previously unranked Michigan team, so good timing for the Mavericks. The North Star College Cup will have four Minnesota college teams Jan. 23-24 at the X and two of them will be ranked higher than the Gophers (assuming Mankato and No. 5 Duluth don't fall below No. 16 Minnesota in the next two weeks).
The participants could choose the sex, skin tone, facial features, head shape, hair, clothing and accessories of their online friend. Each student also took a personality test.
A different group of 209 students was then asked to examine the avatars and rate what they thought of the creator's personality, based on the same five traits, and if they would want to be friends with the creator.
The raters accurately identified the creator's extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism based on their avatar, even if the avatar didn't physically resemble the person. They couldn't, however, discern the person's openness or conscientiousness.
Well, like, that's just your opinion, man.
Neil Young fans will want to grab this terrific bootleg from a 1974 performance at the Bottom Line in NYC. The good folks at Aquarium Drunkard never fail to deliver the goods.
I'm giving the MVP to OSU's offensive line tonight. Cardale Jones was good, Ezekiel was very good, but his line was even better.
Yes, that was truly one of the great all-around teams. Imagine if they hadn't turned the ball over four times. Other than their loss to Virginia Tech in Week 2, the only teams to stay within a touchdown of Ohio State this season were Alabama, Penn State and the Gophers.
Ohio State won the line of scrimmage on both sides. For the part of the game I saw, that made the difference. Well, that and Oregon's dropped passes.
