Oriente: Audy Ciriaco (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a double. Eric Berger struck out four in 4.2 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and one walk. Oriente had only three hits in the game.
Cibao: Carlos Peguero (Texas) was 1-for-4 with a home run. Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-3. Giovanni Soto (Cleveland) struck out seven in 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and three walks.
The game: The lone run came on Peguero's home run with two out in the sixth. The best scoring chance for Oriente came in the third, when they got a one-out single and a walk and then a two-out walk loaded the bases.
Series status: Cibao leads the best-of-nine series four games to two.
PUERTO RICAN LEAGUE
MAYAGUEZ 2, SANTURCE 0 IN MAYAGUEZ
Santurce: Robert Andino was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Ruben Sosa (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk. Pat Misch (Miami) struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and a walk.
Mayaguez: Martin Maldonado (Milwaukee) was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Ozzie Martinez (Baltimore) was 2-for-4. Pete Parise pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
The game: Maldonado doubled in Daniel Ortiz with none out in the second and Luis Montanez singled in Maldonado in the seventh. The best scoring chance for Santurce came in the third, when a walk and a single put men on first and second with one out and a two-out error loaded the bases.
Series status: Mayaguez leads the best-of-seven series two games to one.
