    1. I don't know what "test result" they're waiting for when a CT scan showed the clots in my lungs pretty much instantly. Mine went un(mid)diagnosed for a week in which I felt tired and flu like, with increasing shortness of breath. So, reading the article, I think it's a good bet and I hope they get him on some blood thinners soon.

    1. Question... once I posted this link, I tried to edit it to add the "target="_blank" so it would open in a new window. I wasn't successful doing so... is that, supposed to happen?

          1. not sure what you did there, Boss. I don't see quotes around _blank (as in target="_blank", which is how I always type it). Apparently not needed?

the "rel="nofollow"" part apparently is auto-appended, so the user doesn't have to type that part once the target is set to _blank.

            1. The rel="nofollow" part is unrelated to the target attribute.

Quotes are required, but browsers are good at doing what people mean and coping with terrible HTML.

    2. Penalties affect the players: warnings, fines. Not the team with strikes, balls, balks, etc.
Sounds like a decent way of making it stick without making the contest partly about who's best at following the time rules.
Will the fine amount vary based on the player's salary? I don't want the underpaid minimum-salary guys having to pay significant parts of their annual earnings, but I don't want the amounts to be trivial to the big-contract guys, either.

      1. I suspect public perception might come into play at some point. "Jeez, Player X is always wasting our time, look how many fines he got."

      2. It should be an escalating fine. Maybe after 5 demerits, the fine increases. After 10 it goes up again, etc etc.

  1. Punto sitting out 2015 season but not retiring so he can spend time with his family. Hopefully, this is a guy just test-driving retirement and doesn't want to admit to it instead of having problems at home that's preventing him from playing this season.

    1. The all-time low temperature in the city, however, is 15 degrees below zero, set on Feb. 9, 1934, according to the National Weather Service.

      Heh.

  2. So, it's 2 am and I am wide awake. I have been a bit of a stranger around here, and a big reason for my distance has been plain ole lack of time. Well, time is only going to be more scarce going forward for this guy as last week I finished up with my job of the past 11 years, and will be going into business for myself. The google machine will help you find what I am up to here in Alex. My wife and I are super excited. I know there are quite a few craft beer lovers on this site, and those beers will be prominent in my business model. So, it's 2 am and I am laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out where to spend my remodel dollars, what foods in my repertoire should hit the menu, did I pick the right name (hope so, as I just bought the domain rights 5 minutes ago), and did I really just quit and awesome job to be my own boss?

So, as it is 2 am and I am wide awake, I make the trip to my living room couch and jump on my lap top, and I soon find myself logging myself onto this half-baked site to share the news with people who I have known (virtually) for years and years. So, sometime down the road, I may have a great idea for a place for the citizens to gather. It will be a short drive for Nibbish, I am guessing. Cheers, my friends.

    1. As someone that is also wide awake at 2am, I wish my fellow compatriot (both message board and insomniac -wise) nothing but best wishes and Godspeed. Though it sounds like it will be definitely a hop, skip, jump, and then some away from me, I certainly hope that I can see it sometime with my own eyes. Should it come up, I immediately claim 5%10% of any of cheaptoy's craft beer tie-in profits for whatever half-baekd design I can half-asf for the tap handle.

In all seriousness though (and as a veteran of the industry), that's awesome, crazy, and awesome. Best of luck, friend.

      1. Thanks for the well wishes hungry joe! Funny, I was "this" close to pulling the trigger on more of a brew pub concept, which really would have been crazy, and fun. However, I tabled the brew house for now. Possibly, if all goes great, I may revive the idea in a few years. Then, we would have some fun on this site, with recipe and banner tap handle design contests.

    2. Heyo thats great news Zoomx. Make sure to highlight the opening date so perhaps a caucus can happen. Lord knows I've driven through enough lately so It'll be cool to have a place to stop for a bite.

    3. Congrats on making the jump and best of luck with this thing going forward. That's a hike I really never have occasion to make, but if I'm ever passing through I'll be sure to stop by.

I can only imagine how scary/exciting it would be to make a leap like that. I'm about a year away from what I had hoped was my ten year plan for starting a brewery, which, right now, is clear it won't be happening. Guess I'll have to start a new ten year plan. Maybe this time I'll actually make a plan.

      1. Ever thought of cutting your teeth on a 7bbl brewpub system? I may be heading down that trail in a few years.

        1. That's part of my problem, I haven't really done any of the leg work.

I do feel like I would do better with just a brewery (and there are some awesome brick cigar rolling/tobacco processing buildings in the town I love that would make great breweries) so I could just concentrate on what I do best. But something like a 7bbl brew pub would be a lot of fun too.

        2. If you ever do get somewhere with that, I think you're far enough away that I'd be happy to share my black ipa recipe. Not to brag, or anything, but it's the best beer in the world.

      2. Oh, duh, I know what could potentially get me up there. When you get everything up and running, I'll keep an eye out for bonspiels.

        1. Yes, curling is picking up steam in our area. My hockey dad days are numbered and I could see picking up curling in a few years when life settles down. Look me up when if you head this way!

    4. congrats and best wishes, zooomy!

You need to be a bit more obvious about how to find your stuff on the Tubes. Please advertise here when the time is right.

I have my fingers crossed that a place that prominently supports craft beers can make it in Alex. I know that the market has deepened and broadened over the past decade-plus, but I would have assumed that even now a bar/tavern/restaurant in an outlying area in (most of the country) would have to rely heavily for profitability on BudMilloors LiteDryIce sales to people who don't actually like the taste of beer. I hope I'm wrong.

      1. The craft beer craze is definitely red hot in this town, and my previous employer saw some benefits of tilting the taps heavily to those beers. However, I will have the domestics available by the bottle, which will be fine for those who love our food but still want a bud light type beer. I will definitely post a link when we launch our website. Thanks for the congrats and such!

    5. Good luck with the business--and with the sleep! Clearly what needs to happen is a road trip/caucus when it opens!

    6. Congrats on taking the plunge. I've been working on and off trying to open my own studio for the last 2 years, and have just started into creating a business model and 5 year plan. It's daunting for sure. I'm looking forward to hearing about your path on this journey.
