I haven't followed Kim Gordon very closely, but I'm intrigued by her new book. And there's no question she knows how to rock.

In this 2014 performance, she plays with members of Nirvana at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Her voice just didn't work on this song. I think they could have chosen just about any other song on Nevermind and it would have worked better.
Thanks for commenting! I wanted to find something with her performing in Body/Head, but I was short on time and know nothing of their music. (I suppose I could have gone with someone whose music I actually know, but what fun would that be?)
just about any
othersongSuperfluous "other": this song isn't from Nevermind (it was a single that was later put on Incesticide).
I haven't listened yet, but I just imagined it, and it doesn't work well.
Details, details...
This was better than I imagined.
I realize now that I'd imagined Kim singing "Sliver", which is worse by far (as sung by Kim). She swallows all the lyrics:
"Mom and Dad went to a show;
Dropped me off with Grandpa Joe.
Kicked and screamed; said, 'please, no.
Grandma take me home.
Grandma take me home.
Grandma take me home.
Grandma take me home.'"
aaand now this is in my head.
I don't want to go to too much effort to explain what was admittedly a half-baked video choice, but I think I picked this more for the spectacle of the performance than the quality of her voice. This theme week got me thinking about how different women present themselves onstage, and Gordon's performance felt different than what we'd seen already. I also wanted to go for someone who had been established for quite a while to contrast with some of the other things hj and meat had selected.
*prepares for tomorrow's Wendy O. Williams video*
who had been established for quite a while
I think we wanted to skew a bit more contemporary this time, as we have an ample history of and ability to play the classics. Good times in any case. Happy that Zack is keeping the list going.

Um, oops.
Please don't take it as criticism. It was an interesting video and got a lot more (slow-burn) discussion going...
Nirvana = Stars
Sonic Youth = Stars
Should Nirvana + Sonic Youth = StarsSTARSstars?
Not to worry--I didn't take it that way. I just wanted to share more about what I'd had in the back of my mind when selecting it and also contribute more to the conversation, which is definitely interesting.
