Minor Details: Games of April 12

Stranded runners lead to losses for Rochester and Fort Myers.  D. J. Baxendale with a strong performance for Chattanooga.  A Zac Attack leads Cedar Rapids.

BUFFALO 2, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a double.  Doug Bernier was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Jason Wheeler pitched 6.2 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  Lester Oliveros struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Stephen Pryor pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk while striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Chris Dickerson was 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Randy Wolf pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Preston Guilmet struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Dickerson singled in a run in the third and Caleb Gindl had an RBI triple in the fourth.  The Red Wings had two men on in the first, third, and ninth, but stranded eleven runners.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-5.  Josmil Pinto was used as a pinch-hitter and was 1-for-1.

CHATTANOOGA 6, MONTGOMERY 0 IN MONTGOMERY

Batting stars:  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.

Pitching stars:  D. J. Baxendale pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Dallas Gallant struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Johnny Field was 2-for-4 with a double.  Reinaldo Lopz struck out seven in six shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks.

The game:  It was scoreless through six, but the Lookouts scored three in the seventh and three in the ninth.  Harrison had a two-run single in the seventh to open the scoring.  Mike Gonzales had an RBI double in the ninth.  The Biscuits left the bases loaded in the fifth and seventh and had men on first and third in the eighth.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

CHARLOTTE 4, FORT MYERS 0 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting star:  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Alex Muren struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Jake Bauers was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Andrew Velazquez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jacob Faria struck out seven in six shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk.

The game:  Charlotte scored one in the second, one in the fifth, and two in the eighth.  The Miracle got a man to third in the first, third, sixth, and seventh, but was 0-for-10 with men in scoring position.

Of note:  Alex Swim was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-4.  Chad Christensen was 0-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BELOIT 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times and driving in two.  Zach Larson was 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.  Jonatan Hinojosa was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Michael Cederoth pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.  Zach Tillery struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Cameron Booser struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Edwin Diaz was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in two.  Trevor Bayless struck out five in two shutout innings, allowing a walk.

The game:  The Kernels scored two in the first and Larson had a three-run double in the second to make the score 5-1.  Diaz' two-run double made it 5-3 in the fifth and it stayed there until the eighth, when Granite's two-run double highlighted a three-run inning that put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jorge Fernandez was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.
