Got in a 7 mile group run on Saturday, then on Sunday did the Bimbler's Bash trail run in a State park in Guilford, CT. They said 10K'ish, but it was easily 7 miles. Some running, but mostly crawling up rocks and around mud pits. Proceeds go to maintaining the trails.
Tho't I'd be sore on Monday, but I felt good enough to log 16 hilly miles on my bike in balmy CT temps yesterday. Today, however, I can feel the acid in my legs. Le sigh.
This weekend a 6 mile taper run, then Cheshire Half Marathon the following Sunday.
Started reading Chi Marathon (book I bought NBBW but she hasn't picked it up - kinda like the bowling ball Homer gave to Marge). So far I like the concepts (train hard -> train smart, force your body -> listen to your body). I'm sure I'll do another post on it as I get through it)...
I really need to get back to exercising. I've done very little since the first of the year and none at all since Lent started. The time just hasn't been there. I'm hoping that in a month or so, when our youth programs end for the summer, I'll be able to get back to it again. And if I can, then I'll have to figure out how to keep exercising once the youth programs start up again in the fall.
My batch of sauerkraut is bubbling away.
Tidbits from the book:
Chi Marathon - Old Paradigm
Finesse - Force
Intelligent Movement - Physical exertion
Manage energy - Spend energy
Build energy - Burn energy
Relax to go faster - Push harder to go faster
Core strength - Leg strength
Train smart - Train hard
Discover, explore - Command, force, dictate, coerce
Mind and body - Mind over body
Learn from your body - Test your body
Listen to your body - Force your body
Gradual progress - Right now, at any cost
That last one resonates with me - work it up slowly and gradually.
I bought a bike.
I got to ride it twice, then it's been cold and/or windy. Tomorrow looks like it's gonna be decent so I'm hoping to get out and ride again.
One of the big drawbacks at my current place is it's in a sub development in part of a larger, newer suburban environment where nothing is bike friendly. Brand new six lane road built out in the country and somehow they couldn't manage to squeeze a bike lane in.
I know nothing about bikes, but the all-black frame looks pretty badass.
The bike shop helped me find something suitable, but I'm not gonna lie the matte black frame was a huge selling point!
Matt(e)s are awesome.
That comment should result in an automatic deduction of $1WGOM.
Thanks, sean. You're the best!
I had a nineteen mile ride on Saturday and the wind from the south was fierce. We've been constantly checking Craigs list for a burley to bring the Valet along.
I just listed our old bike trailer on craigs list for $25. I must have underpriced it because I have gotten 10 responses per day but haven't had time to respond.
They got some kiddie haulers in the auction below.
That is a sweet ride Zack. Nice comfort bike, you should do well riding around town and on bike trails. I'm glad you went to a bike shop. Most are pretty good about getting the bike you need, one that fits, and one that meets your price expectations.
I've decided that I'm going to build a fixed-gear bike this Spring. I could use a project and I need to improve my bike fix-up skills. Police bike auction is Thursday, so I'm hoping to find a right sized frame there for cheap. I have a friend who is thinking of doing the same so we can work together, although he's a bit of a talker so we'll see. I will definitely be chronicling my progress (or lack thereof).
I rebuilt two bikes when I lived in Buffalo and had a blast. I love working on mechanical stuff. If you still need a pair of hands in a few weeks, I'm down.
I'm in the market for a bike so I can bike to the office; going to have to google that auction and maybe I'll see you there.
That matte black is tight Zack.

It's close to Yicketville too!
sure is. some good bikes on there. I'll probably see you down there.
Biked to work for the first time in almost two years, and the first time from the current home. Google estimated it would take 34 minutes for the 5.3 miles. Maybe if I was still vaguely in shape; instead it took 45 minutes and it was rather exhausting. Unfortunately the ride was mostly downhill so not looking forward to riding home.
Bus bicycle racks FTW!
