I'm just naming the CoC this in the vain hope it comes true.

Elder Daughter is just a month away from going on an adventure, moving out to Washington with her boyfriend. It's kind of been bothering me a lot until my wife pointed out that she's the same age Mrs. Twayn was when she moved down to Iowa to be with me. I've had my doubts about her boyfriend in terms of his ambition or apparent lack thereof, but he's a musician and carries all the baggage that goes along with artistry. Last night I find out that he's got a really good friend out in LA who's making a name for himself as a director, and he's hired Jake to write the score for his next movie, a post-apocalyptic western they're going to shoot in Mexico. He's already raised $8 million for the project, so we'll see how it goes. I learned a long time ago not to count your money until the check is cashed.
Anyway, yesterday my wife and daughters all took the bus downtown and kicked around for a few hours together. I picked them up at 4:00 and we went to see Slow West at the MSP Film Festival. It was made in New Zealand but I could have sworn it was shot in South Dakota and Montana. I wish Hollywood made more movies like it. Tonight they're screening Bill Pohlad's first movie as a director, a biopic about Brian Wilson, Love and Mercy. We had intended to see more of the festival showings but my stint in the hospital interfered. After the movie we went to Black Sheep Pizza for dinner (Element 115 Lager on tap). My wife is never happier than when she's spending time with her two girls, and I'm never happier than when I'm making my wife happy. It's a pretty good arrangement for all of us.
this needs to be a FKB.
I'm inching closer to a similar state, what with The Boy nearing the end of his junior year. Adulthood for him is only a whisper away. Scary, kids.
Invented a great marinade last night (for bistro cut steak on the grill) in what was left of the minced garlic jar:
Soy sauce (salty)
Oyster sauce (umame)
Asian chili sauce (heat)
Minced garlic
looks somewhat similar to the dipping sauce I make for pot stickers.
I made roasted cauliflower and chick peas last night. Most excellent. I didn't actually have harissa, so I cobbled together a mix of: my last tablespoon of chili paste, a teaspoon of thai red chile paste, a couple tablespoons of sriracha, and some minced garlic and minced ginger. Turned out great. If you think you don't like cauliflower, think again.
tonight I'm busting out the homemade sauerkraut to go with grilled brats.
Yum! Once both kids are out of your house, you're more than welcome to come back to MN and cook my family's meals.
I woke up in the middle of the night with a backache. Serves me right.
justice?
Given your age, I'd have to say it was stress induced.
Nesting fial!
still, a better call-back than mine.
Stopped by Costco today. I can get behind the 4-way IPA mixed case from Sierra Nevada for $25.
Yea, that is a nice case.
Went to a breakfast thing this morning put on by our financial advisor's office, and t he guy next to me lamented to me about thé Blues' woeful performance. I just smiled a bit and said, "I'm from Minnesota. "
I was at our Little League field today and saw a lady wearing a Wild hoodie. I said "Go, Wild!" as she went by. She just smiled at me. I don't think she was prepared for that.
That reminds me of the time I yelled "go Ponies!" at Glenn Perkins in Milwaukee. Cept I didn't even get a grin.
When a local team is in the playoffs, some Metro Transit busses are programed to include messages like "Go Twins" along with the route info on the display at the front of the bus. (Example here.) I always wonder what sports-oblivious people think when they see the "Go Wild" message.
Boy the weather became absolutely perfect today. Got in a bike ride, and the Valet for to ride on a swing at the park for the first time. He loved it.
Of course he loved it, but you'll most likely kill him in the morning.
Not sure if you watch The Goldberg's, but this week's episode was all about The Princess Bride. I love that show, it's got such a great premise for anyone who lived through the home video revolution.
We are in the midst of the worst drought in decades and we're well past the rainy season and before the usual May Gray or June Gloom brings occasional drizzles so the school my wife works at is having their prom outdoors. So of course it's been raining all afternoon for the first time in weeks.
We got some rain yesterday and last night too. Rumors of snow and rain in the Sierras, which would be a really good thing.
The Twins had like 15 base runners and scored 1 run, all without a hit. TWINS BASEBALL!!
Ah, crap. My.post will probably post in another ten minutes.
I stared at the box score for quite a while and couldn't really make sense of it
This Paxton guy seems to be quick pitching. Well, not now since there is a runner on second.
This just in: homemade sauerkraut is awesome. The Kraut Source spring-loaded device worked great.
The flavor on this kraut is, ifidosaysomyself, absolutely delicious. It has a nice tang, isn't too salty (I was worried that my brine was overly salty, but it seems that my fears were unfounded), and a great crunch after two weeks of fermentation. I topped off the brine and put the remainder back to fermenting for another week.
In the course of my work I read a lot of gastroenterology medical literature and much of it stresses the need to keep a healthy gut microbiome. Besides being tasty, fermented foods like kraut, kim chi and pickled veggies have a strong probiotic effect that's made even stronger when combined with pre-biotic foods (non-digestible short-chain fatty acids) like beans, oats, garlic, onions, asparagus and artichokes. And homemade is always healthier than canned or packaged.
Good on ya, bS.

Cool.
Do you have a link to the thingy?
