1. Mitski recorded a Daytrotter Session at SXSW and it was posted on Wednesday. My auto-renew subscription that I thought of cancelling paid off! (Also, noticed and grabbed older sessions from Courtney Barnett and Natalie Prass.)
2. In 2005, Aaron Dilloway left Wolf Eyes and travelled to Nepal for several months. Last week, a devastating earthquake hit the same country. On Wednesday, he wrote on Facebook: "Ten years ago I released this cassette boxset of my field recordings made in Nepal. I am now offering it for sale as a digital download and 100% of sales will be donated to the America Nepal Medical Foundation." Yesterday, he already donated $3000 from this. If you're only going to buy one collection of Nepalese field recordings this year, make it this one. (I might have donated anyways, but this spurred me to do so and also put a 3-hour album of field recordings atop the Bandcamp charts for a day. It was #3 Thursday.)
Since Nepal, Dilloway has been making some pretty great noise, too.

*This is the Late Show with David Letterman theme (NBC years). Its a pretty groovy/jazzy tune. I dont know if Shaffer picked out the musical acts on Dave's show but one thing I'll miss when Dave leaves the air is the cool music acts his show had.
Mouse Mouse wouldn't be a bad name for a band.
Nor would Mouse Rat.
Rat Rat? Not so much.
It isn't that bad.
Mole Rat?
Modest Mars?
I get MM and MoM confused until I read the titles.
""Good News For People Who Love Bad News" or "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank" = American vocal band that did "Float On"

*In town for the Basilica Block Party – July 10 & 11 … actually, looks like a decent lineup this year. Performing that weekend are two other bands represented on today's FMD lists!
Whoa, my friend's band is playing the BBP. That's pretty cool.
I'm gonna go Saturday night to catch Jason Isbell, and Wilco, and probably Jenny Lewis. Likely going to skip Friday, though.
Go see Southside Desire!
Seriously though, my friend's been hacking away in the MPLS scene for a long time, so I'm really happy to see that they're gaining some traction. City Pages just deemed their self-created label Best Of.
I'll give them a shot. They usually stagger the times at the different stages somewhat, so if they don't overlap too much with Isbell, I'll probably make it.
Those are the acts that caught my eye as well, but I probably won't make it out.
Yeah, I might do that Saturday BBD too.
If only they could get BBJ selling BBQ at the BBP (or is it BBD)?
Weezer is the Saturday night headliner in DSM for the 80/35 the next day. I'm trying to convince the lady we need to go to DSM for a rugby tournament the morning of the 11 th, then go see Run The Jewels and Weezer that night. Her parents' 40th wedding anniversary is that weekend though.

New Metz is out next week. I've listened to the album once and it's loud, which is really what you're looking for in a Metz record.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrYH-TQCn9U
I had Marigold from... some single. I forget which. Who knew Dave Ghrol could write music?
Sold.
I think my two word review of the new Metz was "this rips." Can't wait.
They're a band that seems made for two-word reviews.

Here's Chris R's review of Wednesday Replacements show I was at.
http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/music/301977011.html
I thought he over sold the issues related to angst Paul W. had with crowd, although it was obvious they cut the encores short. I think music performances have become so staged and packaged (my term), that it's noticeable when a band adds some personality or go off script to their performance.
The show wasn't as good as the Riot Fest or Midway Stadium shows but there was so much emotion with those shows and they were playing in front of 20,000 and 15,000 people it's not fair to really compare. This show reminded me of Mats shows at First Avenue when they were pretty much firing on all cylinders with some goofiness tossed in every so often. Also the crowd was about 95 male between the ages of 45-55, all clinging hopelessly to the little shred of coolness and sense of rock and roll they once had in their youth (present company included).
Bobby Bare Jr. tonight and perhaps Speedy Gomez on Saturday (that's going to be a game day decision).
Duh, Speedy Ortiz.
I do that too!
FKA Speedy Arias.
RIP Ben E King. Rather than trot out "Stand by Me", I'll play my favorite version of a song first made famous by Mr. King's band The Drifters. (Written by Doc Pomus)
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eZjwJZF8uE
first hit by King and the Drifters (King got a co-writing credit)
My Alabama Shakes LP was waiting for me when I got home. It's on clear vinyl and looks totally bitchin'. I've held off listening to anything from it except the first single. There's more funk in this go-round.
Man, can Brittany ever sing!
