Minor Details: Games of May 3

Alex Meyer pitched very well before tiring in the eighth, leading the Red Wings to victory.  It was the pitchers who had to Lookout in a Chattanooga victory.  The Miracle wastes good pitching from Brett Lee.  Felix Jorge pitched well if you throw out the second inning, which of course you can't.

ROCHESTER 7, NORFOLK 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Danny Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Eric Fryer was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and a double.

Pitching stars:  Alex Meyer pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  A. J. Achter retired all five batters he faced with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Paul Janish was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Michael Bowden pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts.

The game:  Ortiz hit a two-run triple in a four-run first that gave the Red Wings a 4-0 lead.  The Tides got one in the third, but four consecutive two-out singles produced two Red Wings runs in the fifth and Hicks' homer in the sixth made it 7-1.  The Tides got two in the eighth and had the bases loaded, bringing up the tying run with one out, but a popup and a strikeout ended the threat.

Of note:  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-4 with a run.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 14, JACKSONVILLE 13 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Levi Michael was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Heiker Meneses was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth) and a double, scoring twice.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Viosergy Rosa was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring three times and driving in three.  Kenny Wilson was 3-for-6 with a home run (his second) and a triple, scoring three times.  David Adams was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.

The game:  Trailing 3-0, the Lookouts scored six times in the third, getting triples from Max Kepler and Byron Buxton and a two-run homer by Miguel Sano.  The Suns came right back with five in the fourth, getting two-run doubles from Rosa and Adams, to go ahead 8-6.  The Lookouts tied it in the bottom of the fourth.  Carlos Lopez' two-run triple capped a four-run eighth that put the Suns up 12-9, but the Lookouts got three in the bottom of the eighth, two of them on a triple by Michael, to tie it 12-12.  Wilson tripled and scored in the ninth to give the Suns a 13-12 advantage, but in the bottom of the ninth a double, a single, and two walks tied the score and Michael singled to drive home the winning run.

Of note:  Buxton was 2-for-6 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and three RBIs.  Kepler was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice.  Greg Peavey pitched 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs on ten hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

CHARLOTTE 5, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Pitching stars:  Brett Lee pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  J. T. Chargois pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Marty Gantt was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Juniel Querecuto was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Chris Kirsch pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  It was 1-1 after seven.  In the eighth, two walks and a Willy Adames single put the Stone Crabs in the lead.  They added two more runs in the inning on a ground out and an RBI single by Joey Rickard.  The Miracle got one back in the bottom of the eighth and had the tying run on base, but their last five batters were retired.  The Stone Crabs added a final run in the ninth.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-5.  Alex Swim was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Marcus Knecht was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

CLINTON 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Trey Vavra was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Pat Kelly was 2-for-5 with a triple and a run.  Max Murphy was 3-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Michael Theofanopolous pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Nelson Ward was 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk, scoring once.  Kristian Brito was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk.  Wayne Taylor was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

The game:  Brito hit a three-run homer in the second to put the LumberKings up 3-0.  Three two-out singles got the Kernels on the board in the sixth, but Joseph DeCarlo's two-run single made it 5-1 in the seventh.  The Kernels scored once in the ninth but did not threaten to get back into the game.

Of note:  Tanner English was 0-for-3 with two walks.  Zack Larson was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Felix Jorge pitched six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
