Tiffany – I Think We’re Alone Now

Everyone has to start somewhere, right? Since I've never done a Guest DJ week before, I figured I'd share a few highlights chronicling how my taste in music evolved.

 

I started dance classes at a fairly young age, and my dance studio was a major source of exposure to pop music. One of the benefits of dancing was learning how to follow the beat and to hear the musical phrasing and rhythm changes. This unquestionably has influenced how I listen to all sorts of music. As I recall, I did a routine with pom-poms to this song. The costume had a lot of sequins.

  1. Other songs I recall dancing to:
    “Partyman” by Prince (from the 1989 Batman movie)
    I’d include a video, but a quick YouTube search didn’t turn up anything; I wasn’t too surprised given this recent conversation.

    “Shimmy Shimmy Ko-Ko Bop” (I think I must have danced to a cover; the original by Little Anthony and the Imperials doesn’t sound quite right)

    “Great Balls of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis

    “The Siamese Cat Song” as performed by Bobby McFerrin
    Didn’t see a live version, so this will have to do.

    I suppose I could have played one of these songs instead, but I just wanted to start the week by seeing how low of a rating I could get. 😉

  2. In Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Debbie Gibson and Tiffany are having a cat fight in a swamp when all of the sudden everything is eerily quiet. Then Debbie deadpans, "I think...we're alone now." I love SyFy.
