Minor Details: Games of June 8

The Red Wings score late to make it look better.  Stephen Gonsalves makes his high-A debut.  The Theofanopoulos-Hildenberger connection leads the Kernels.  The DSL Twins win by a touchdown as Jorge Parra hits for the cycle.

INDIANAPOLIS 6, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Eric Fryer was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Wilkin Ramirez (remember him?) was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Mark Hamburger pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Keon Broxton was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Mel Rojas, Jr. was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.

The game:  It wasn't as close as the score makes it sound.  Brent Morel had an RBI single in the first and Broxton had a two-run single in the second to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.  Ex-Twin Pedro Florimon singled in a run in the fourth and the Indians added two in the seventh to go up 6-0.  The Red Wings finally got on the board with one in the seventh and got two in the ninth on RBI doubles by Fryer and Ramirez, but they did not get the tying run up to bat.

Of note:  Argenis Diaz was 1-for-5 with a double.  James Beresford was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4.  Danny Ortiz was 1-for-4.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4.  Jason Wheeler pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

CHATTANOOGA AT JACKSON

Rained out.  The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

FORT MYERS 5, LAKELAND 3 IN LAKELAND

Batting stars:  Chad Christensen was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Alex Muren retired all five batters he faced with one strikeout.  Todd Van Steensel struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Dominic Ficociello was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer (his third) and a double, scoring twice.  Javier Betancourt was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Adenson Verastegui struck out three in three innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks.

The game:  Christensen had a two-run single in the top of the second and Bobby Borchering delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the second.  It stayed 2-1 until the sixth, when a single, a triple, and two more singles plated three runs to put the Miracle up 5-1.  Ficociello hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-3, but there it stayed.  The Flying Tigers had only one baserunner after the sixth inning.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 1-for-5.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Stephen Gonsalves, in his high-A debut, pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, WEST MICHIGAN 2 IN WEST MICHIGAN

Batting stars:  Blake Schmit was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  T. J. White was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Jared Wilson pitched six innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Michael Theofanopoulos pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Joey Pankake was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Michael Gerber was 1-for-2 with a triple and a run.

The game:  The Whitecaps got two in the fourth to go up 2-0.  The Kernels got on the board in the sixth on Gordon's RBI single.  In the seventh, Schmit had a two-run double to put the Kernels ahead and scored an insurance run when Brian Navaretto singled.  The Kernel bullpen took it from there, allowing only a walk over the last three innings.

Of note:  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4 with a run.  Zack Larson was 0-for-4.  Alex Real was 0-for-4.

DSL TWINS 21, DSL YANKEES1 14 AT YANKEES1

Batting stars:  Jorge Parra hit for the cycle, going 4-for-6 with a home run, a triple, and a double, scoring three times and driving in six.  Edgar Herrera was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Darling Cuesto was 3-for-4 with two walks and three runs.

Pitching star:  Luis Bellorin struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two walks.

Opposition stars:  Diego Castillo was 3-for-6 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in three.  Pablo Olivares was 3-for-5 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Daniel Barrios was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.

The game:  The Yankees1 led 6-1 after three and 8-5 after four, but the Twins came up with eleven runs in the fifth to take control of the game.  Seventeen men batted in the inning.  The Twins had only five hits, but there were eight walks, a hit batsman, and five wild pitches.  The Yankees1 got three in the bottom of the fifth to close to 16-11, but never really got back into the game.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-6 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jorge Munoz was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jean Carlos Arias was 1-for-3 with three walks and three runs.  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4 with two walks and three runs.  Juan Herrera struck out five in three innings but gave up six runs on seven hits and a walk.
