Nothin' from nothin'.
I don't have much to say that isn't obvious. At least the Twins didn't get shut down by a Jeremy. Chris Young is a good pitcher who's having an excellent season so far. And at least they didn't get no-hit, as Trevor Plouffe took care of that in the seventh inning.
Trevor May pitched well. Yes, he allowed a lot of baserunners, but the bottom line is how many score, and only one did. When you go six innings and only allow one run, I have to say you pitched well no matter how many guys the other team had on base.
The question was asked in the game log, at what point do the Twins move Joe Mauer out of the third spot in the order. I've wondered that, too. I like Mauer as much as anyone, but over a third of the season has gone by, and he's hitting .260/.322/.358. Those numbers don't exactly say "third-place hitter". The problem, if they do move Mauer out of the third spot, is who do they put there? There's no one else who's numbers say they belong there, either. So, I suspect Mauer will remain the three hitter for some time yet.
The Twins have lost two in a row to the Royals, dropping into second place. Well, after all, they're playing a team of all-stars, so maybe that's to be expected. But of course, the great thing about baseball is that there's always another game. If the Twins win tonight, they're right back in a tie for first.
ubelmann always used to tell us that there's no such thing as a "must-win game" unless losing it means you're mathematically eliminated, and with almost two-thirds of the season left this certainly is not a must-win game. It'd sure be nice to win it, though. The Twins will send Kyle Gibson to the mound. He'll face Edinson Volquez, who's struggled in his last couple of starts. Sounds like a good time to start our season-ending one hundred four-game winning streak! We'll just have to settle for 137-25!
Player A: .259/.336/.330/.666
Player B: .260/.322/.358/.680
you didn't show us his post-June 9 numbers for last year
Thank God for his initial RISP success to start this season, or it'd be bleaker
After: .294/.385/.411/.796 in 64 games.
