SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 10, ROCHESTER 7 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-3 with a home run (his fifth) and a double, driving in five. Eric Fryer was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star: Alex Meyer pitched four innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Austin Romine was 2-for-5 with a grand slam (his fifth homer) and six RBIs. Gregorio Petit was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in one. Rob Refsnyder was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.
The game: Three RBI doubles put the Red Wings up 3-0 in the first, but a RailRiders seven-run third put them in the lead to stay. The inning started with an error, which led to six of the runs being unearned, but the inning also featured four singles, a walk, a hit batsman, and Romine's grand slam. The Red Wings cut the lead to 7-6 after five, but Romine singled home two more in the seventh and the Red Wings could not catch up.
Of note: Danny Santana was 1-for-5 with a triple and a run. James Beresford was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Danny Ortiz was 2-for-5 with a double and a run. Jason Wheeler pitched 2.2 innings, giving up seven runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks with no strikeouts.
CHATTANOOGA 8, JACKSONVILLE 6 IN CHATTANOOGA
Batting stars: Max Kepler was 3-for-4 with two triples, scoring twice and driving in one. Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his eighteenth) and a walk. Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.
Pitching star: David Hurlbut pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Carlos Lopez was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two. Kenny Wilson was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice. Matt Juengel was 1-for-2 with a home run (his thirteenth) and three RBIs.
The game: Harrison's two-run double keyed a four-run first and Walker II's two-run homer capped a four-run third that left the Lookouts ahead 8-1. The Suns spent the rest of the game chipping away at the lead, and when Lopez hit a ground-rule double in the ninth it made the score 8-6 with runners on second and third with two out. A ground out ended the game.
Of note: Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once. Miguel Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.
FORT MYERS 4, DAYTONA 1 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: Marcus Knecht was 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Engelb Vielma was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.
Pitching stars: Aaron Slegers pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. D. J. Johnson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Opposition stars: Robert Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a run. Barrett Astin pitched seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
The game: An error brought home a run in the first, Knecht singled in a run in the third, Garver had an RBI single in the fifth, and Michael Quesada singled home a run in the eighth to put the Kernels up 4-0. The lone Cubs run came in the ninth.
Of note: Zach Granite was 1-for-3.
BURLINGTON 2, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (11 INNINGS)
Batting star: Nick Gordon was 2-for-3.
Pitching star: Keaton Steele pitched nine shutout innings, giving up six hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Andrew Daniel was 2-for-5 with an RBI. Trevor Gretzky was 2-for-4. Jake Jewell struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.
The game: Ten scoreless innings, and only one time when a man reached third base. In the eleventh, a single, an error, and a bunt single loaded the bases with none out. Daniel singled home one run and a wild pitch brought in the other. The Kernels loaded the bases with one out in the eleventh but a pop up and a ground out ended the game.
Of note: Tanner English was 1-for-5. Edgar Corcino was 0-for-3 with a walk. Alex Real was 0-for-5. Brett Doe was 0-for-5.
DSL TWINS 6, DSL ROJOS 4 AT TWINS
Batting stars: Edwin Franco was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in four. Edgar Herrera was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Francisco Hernandez was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.
Pitching star: Danny Feliz pitched three shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Opposition stars: Carlos Mateo was 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit home run. Melbin Berroa was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second. Jose Veras pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The game: Franco doubled in a run in the second, but the Rojos scored two in the third and Berroa homered in the fourth to put the Rojos ahead 3-1. It stayed 3-1 until the eighth, when four walks were followed by a pair of doubles to plate five for the Twins and make it 6-3. Mateo homered in the ninth but the Rojos did not get the tying run on base.
