Minor Details: Games of June 19

Nobody says much about him, but James Beresford is having a heck of a year for the Red Wings.  Alex Wimmers has his third consecutive brilliant performance for the Lookouts.  Not much offense for the Kernels.  A late big inning sinks the DSL Twins.

ROCHESTER 7, LOUISVILLE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Danny Santana was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  James Beresford was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.  Doug Bernier was 1-for-1 with three walks and two runs.

Pitching stars:  Taylor Rogers pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Mark Hamburger retired all five batters he faced.  A. J. Achter pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Irving Falu was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jermaine Curtis was 2-for-4 with a run.  Keyvius Sampson struck out five in five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks.

The game:  Beresford singled in two in the fifth to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead, but the Bats put together four singles in the seventh to go back in front 3-2.  In the bottom of the seventh, Danny Ortiz hit a three-run triple as part of a five run inning that put the Red Wings in the lead to stay.  The last eight Bats were retired.

Of note:  Eric Fryer was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Oswaldo Arcia was 0-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 3, JACKSONVILLE 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Levi Michael was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Alex Wimmers struck out eleven in seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Rieger was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Chadd Krist was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Michael Morse was 2-for-3.

The game:  The Lookouts scored two in the third and Kepler tripled in a run in the seventh.  The Suns did not threaten until the seventh and did not score until the ninth.  In that inning, they scored two and had the tying run on first with two out, but a ground out ended the game.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3 with a walk.

FORT MYERS MIRACLE

CLINTON 4, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CLINTON

Batting stars:  Brett Doe was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with a run.  Alex Real was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Zach Tillery struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.  Luke Bard pitched a shutout inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Taylor Zeutenhorst was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Chantz Mack was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI.  Zack Littell pitched seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  The Kernels got their run in the third on Zack Larson's RBI single.  The LumberKings responded with two in the fourth and added two in the seventh to go up 4-1.  After the third inning, the Kernels only once got a man as far as third base.

Of note:  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-4.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4.  Larson was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

DSL ROJOS 5, DSL TWINS 1 AT ROJOS

Batting stars:  Antonio Tovar was 2-for-4 with a run.  Jhonathan Alvarez was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Gabriel A. Ynfante was 1-for-2.

Pitching star:  Juan Herrera pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Johnny Sims was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.  Wennington Romero struck out seven in five innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and a walk.  Edward Escoboza struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  Alvarez singled in a run to get the Twins up 1-0 in the second.  It stayed 1-0 until the sixth, when a double, a wild pitch, and a sacrifice fly tied it 1-1.  In the eighth, the Rojos scored four times to take control of the game.  Sims had a three-run double in the inning.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 1-for-4.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-3.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-4.  Jorge Parra was 0-for-3.
