Minor Details: Games of July 20

Taylor Rogers pitched well for six innings, but unfortunately he also started the seventh.  Adam Brett Walker II hit his twenty-fifth home run.  An excellent outing for Aaron Slegers.  The Kernels get blown out.  Dereck Rodriguez has an awesome game for the E-Twins.  Three GCL Twins pitchers hold the opposition hitless for seven innings.  The DSL Twins lose it in the ninth.

GWINNETT 6, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a home run (his ninth) and a walk, scoring twice.  Eric Farris was 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Mark Hamburger struck out two in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Mycal Jones was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.  Todd Cunningham was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Sean Kazmar was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game:  Rodriguez homered in the second to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead, but it was their only lead of the game.  Adonis Garcia had a two-run single in the third to make it 2-1 Braves.  It stayed 2-1 until the seventh, when Jones had a two-run single as part of a four-run inning.  Farris hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3.  The Red Wings put men on first and third with two out in the eighth, bringing the tying run up to bat, but their last four batters were retired.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  Chris Herrmann was 0-for-4.  Taylor Rogers pitched 6.2 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

CHATTANOOGA 4, MONTGOMERY 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his twenty-fifth.  Stuart Turner was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.

Pitching stars:  David Hurlbut hurled six shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  J. T. Chargois pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk with one strikeout.  Alex Muren pitched two innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Justin O'Conner was 2-for-4 with a double.  Tyler Goeddel was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jacob Faria pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when Turner doubled in the first run of the game.  Walker II hit a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 3-0.  A pair of errors put the Biscuits on the board in the top of the eighth, but they only scored one, and Goodrum got it back in the bottom of the eighth with a home run.  The Biscuits did not bring the tying run up to bat in the ninth.

Of note:  Shannon Wilkerson was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a walk.

FORT MYERS 2, JUPITER 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  T. J. White was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Slegers pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Todd Van Steensel pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Austin Dean was 2-for-4 with a run.  Felix Munoz was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Drew Steckenrider pitched five shutout innings of relief, allowing three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  The Miracle threatened in each of the first two innings and finally broke through in the third, loading the bases with none out and scoring on a pair of sacrifice flies.  The Hammerheads did little on offense until the seventh, when Munoz had a two-out double to drive home their only run.  They also had the tying run on second with two out in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game.

Of note:  Zach Granite was 0-for-4.  Brett Doe was 0-for-3 with a walk.

QUAD CITIES 14, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN QUAD CITIES

Batting stars:  Tanner English was 1-for-3 with a home run (his third) and a walk, scoring three times.  Sean Miller was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Drew Ferguson was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in four.  Ryan Bottger was 3-for-5 with a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Elieser Hernandez struck out six in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

The game:  The River Bandits scored five in the third, two in the fourth, and four in the fifth, adding up to an 11-0 lead.  The third inning was aided by five walks, an error, a passed ball, and a wild pitch.

Of note:  Zack Larson was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Keaton Steele pitched 2.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks with one strikeout.

ELIZABETHTON 12, BURLINGTON 1 IN BURLINGTON

Batting stars:  Rainis Silva was 4-for-4 with a home run (his second), a double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Chris Paul was 3-for-6 with a double and a walk, scoring three times.  Zander Weil was 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk, driving in three.

Pitching star:  Dereck Rodriguez pitched seven shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Austin Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Brandon Thomasson was 1-for-2 with a walk.

The game:  Weil hit a two-run homer in a three-run first, Kamran Young and Weil each had an RBI single in the second, and Silva homered in the third and had an RBI single in the fourth to give the Twins a 7-0 lead.  Rodriguez retired the first eleven batters of the game and did not allow a man past first base.

Of note:  Daniel Kihle was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

GCL TWINS 1, GCL ORIOLES 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Luis Arraez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-3 with a run.  Ruar Verkerk was 2-for-3.

Pitching stars:  Eduardo Del Rosario struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks.  Max Cordy struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.  Stephen Pryor struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Juan Valdez pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with no strikeouts.

The game:  The game's lone run came in the second on an RBI single by Kerby Camacho.  The Orioles did not get a hit until the eighth.

Of note:  Luis Martinez was 0-for-4.  Kolton Kendrick was 0-for-4.  D. J. Hicks was 0-for-3.

DSL YANKEES1 6, DSL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Antonio Tovar was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Edwin Franco was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Gorge Munoz was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Juan Herrera struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.  Andriu Marin struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Estevan Florial was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fourth.  Nelson Alvarez was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Carlos Diaz struck out five in five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks.

The game:  It was 1-1 through six.  Franco singled in a run in the seventh to give the Twins a 2-1 lead.  The Yankees1 scored two in the top of the eighth to take the lead, but Tovar's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth tied it 3-3.  In the ninth, however, Lisandro Blanco singled in the go-ahead run and Alvarez doubled in a pair of insurance runs.  The Twins did not bring the tying run up to bat in the bottom of the ninth.

Of note:  Emmanuel Morel was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Jean Carlos Arias was 1-for-4.
