Minor Details: Games of August 8

Jose Berrios and Oswaldo Arcia lead the Red Wings to victory.  The Lookouts lose it late.  Tyler Jay is starting to pitch better for the Miracle.  Sam Gibbons and Brian Navaretto lead the Kernels to a win.  Jermaine Palacios stays hot for the E-Twins.  The GCL Twins drop a doubleheader.  Jadison Jimenez and Gabriel A. Ynfante lead the DSL Twins to victory.

ROCHESTER 3, CHARLOTTE 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his tenth.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Byron Buxton was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out nine in seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and one walk.  Mark Hamburger pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Dayan Viciedo was 2-for-4 with a double.  John Mayberry, Jr. was 2-for-3.  Terence Marin pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits with one strikeout.

The game:  Arcia hit a two-run homer in the second and Beresford singled in a run in the sixth.  The Knights only once got a man to third.  That was in the second inning, when they had men on first and third with one out.  A pair of strikeouts ended the threat.

Of note:  Danny Santana was 0-for-4.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

MOBILE 9, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring once.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-2 with two walks and two RBIs.  Travis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching star:  Aaron Slegers pitched seven innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Socrates Brito was 2-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Ronnie Freeman was 3-for-4 with three runs.  Edgar Garcia pitched six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Max Kepler tripled and scored in the third to tie it 2-2.  It stayed 2-2 until the seventh, when the BayBears scored twice to go up 4-2.  They then scored five in the ninth to put the game out of reach.  Brito's three-run triple was the big hit of the inning.

Of note:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk.  Kepler was 1-for-5 with a triple and a run.  D. J. Hicks was 1-for-5.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4.

PALM BEACH 4, FORT MYERS 1 IN PALM BEACH

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.  Logan Wade was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Jay struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Jake Reed pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit with one strikeout.  Nick Burdi struck out two in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Danny Diekroeger was 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Luke Voit was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Daniel Poncedeleon struck out six in six shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

The game:  The Cardinals got all of their runs in the fourth inning, two of them on Diekroeger's triple.  The Miracle got all of their run in the seventh, when Garver tripled and scored.

Of note:  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-4.  Ryan Walker was 1-for-4.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.  Omar Bencomo made his Fort Myers debut, pitching five innings and giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks with no strikeouts.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, BOWLING GREEN 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  T. J. White was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, scoring three times.  Tanner English was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring twice.  Brian Navaretto was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched seven innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Nick Anderson pitched a perfect inning.  Luke Bard pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up three hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Coty Blanchard was 2-for-4 with a run.  Cristian Toribio was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Alec Sole was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  The Kernels scored a single run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead.  It stayed 3-0 until the seventh, when the Hot Rods scored twice.  The Kernels got the runs back with interest in the bottom of the seventh as Navaretto hit a three-run homer to make the score 6-2.  Alex Real singled in two in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Of note:  Nick Gordon was 0-for-4 with two RBIs.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-4.  Zack Larson was 0-for-4 with a run.

ELIZABETHTON 10, BLUEFIELD 4 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer (his seventh) and a walk, scoring twice.  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Chris Paul was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.

Pitching stars:  Onesimo Hernandez pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Jose Abreu struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a walk.

Opposition stars:  Christian Williams was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Rodrigo Orozco was 1-for-5 with a two-run homer, his third.  D. J. McKnight was 2-for-5 with a run.

The game:  Leading 1-0, the Twins got back-to-back homers in the third, a three-run homer by Wade and a solo shot by Paul, to go up 5-0.  They opened the fifth with four walks on their way to a five-run inning, including a two-run double by Brian Olson, to put the game out of reach.

Of note:  Alex Perez was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Travis Blankenhorn was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run, scoring once and driving in one.  Olson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.

GCL RED SOX 3, GCL TWINS 0 AT TWINS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-3.  Jorge Andrade was 2-for-3.  Kolton Kendrick was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Pitching star:  Brandon Poulson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Roldani Baldwin was 2-for-4 with a double.  Sean Coyle was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Jalen Williams pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  A wild pitch brought home a run in the first, Tyler Hill singled one home in the third, and a wild pitch-plus-error brought one home in the fifth.  The Twins loaded the bases with one out in the second, had men on first and third with none out in the sixth, and had men on second and third with two in the seventh, but each time strikeouts took them out of the inning.

Of note:  Luis Arraez was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Roberto Gonzalez was 0-for-4.  Robert Molina was 0-for-2.  Lachlan Wells struck out four in three innings but gave up two runs on four hits and three walks.

GCL RED SOX 4, GCL TWINS 3 AT TWINS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Luis Arraez was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Christian Cavaness was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Ariel Montesino was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Andy Perez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Chris Madera was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Yankory Pimentel struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks.

The game:  An RBI double by Montesino and a run-scoring single by Arraez put the Twins up 2-1 in the fifth, but Tyler Spoon's two-run single in the bottom of the fifth made it 3-2 Red Sox.  A single, two wild pitches, and a balk scored an insurance run for the Red Sox in the sixth.  In the seventh, Roberto Gonzalez singled in a run.  The Twins had men on second and third with none out and an intentional walk loaded the bases with one out, but a double play ended the game.

Of note:  Luis Martinez was 0-for-3.  Kolton Kendrick was 1-for-4.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out four in 4.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks.

DSL TWINS 4, DSL ROCKIES 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Gabriel A. Ynfante was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Zaino Henriquez was 3-for-4 with a run.  Gorge Munoz was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Jadison Jimenez pitched five innings, giving up a run on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Andriu Marin pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Anderson Jimenez was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.  Hidekel Gonzalez was 1-for-1 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Jorge Oviedo struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits.

The game:  The Rockies scored once in the first, but the Twins came back with all four of their runs in the second inning.  They had a man on first with two out but then put together four consecutive singles to score the runs.  The Rockies scored one in the sixth and one in the eighth and had the tying run on second with one out in the ninth.

Of note:  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-4.
