Good game.
I had to miss the last couple of innings of this one. When I found out the Twins had lost, I was kind of depressed. After all, the Twins had led by 4-0 at one point. This was a game they could've won, and probably should've won. And they went and lost it.
But after I thought about it, I thought that, you know, this was a pretty good ball game. The Twins scored some runs early. The Rangers came back to take a lead. The Twins didn't give up, but fought back to tie it up and could very easily have taken the lead. Even when they weren't scoring, they hit several line drives for outs. Fien gave up the winning run, but it's not like he got lit up. It was two singles and a sacrifice fly. If I hadn't been emotionally invested in the outcome, I'd have said this was a really entertaining game of baseball.
As fans of a specific team, we of course are emotionally invested in the outcome. And that's okay. That's why they keep the score, after all. But sometimes, we can get so focused on wins and losses that we forget to just enjoy the game of baseball.
That's too bad. Baseball is a great game. A game with a couple of lead changes, a game that features a couple of comebacks, a game that's close all the way to the end, a game that features good performances by a number of players--that's a good game. Sure, I wish the Twins had won, but the fact that they didn't win does not take a way from the fact that this was a very entertaining game of baseball. I think we should recognized that fact and appreciate it.
Besides, we know something that a lot of people don't know. We know that tonight, we start our season-ending forty-eight game winning streak! Trevor May returns to the rotation, at least temporarily, to face Corey Kluber. I'm sure May will be on some sort of pitch count, but there's no reason he shouldn't be able to throw five or six innings if he pitches well. Kluber, of course, is pretty good, but while he pitched really well against the Twins last week he's pitched poorly in two of his last four outings, so there's a chance he will again. We'll just have to settle for 105-57!
