A 14 minute video? Now we're talking.
Explosions in the Sky lite
Not sure if serious...
I'm amused by the thought of GYBE being anything-lite.
heh.
Solid week, DG. I got some good stuff out of it.
When I saw the video here, I thought that he had been extended for a second week.
Gracias.
While we're talking about post-rock bands, I have to wonder why bands like Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, etc don't get more soundtrack work. The best part of Earth to Echo was when they play "The Mighty Rio Grande" towards the end (props to the music picker person on that track, btw. I've listened to that track a couple of times a month or so since seeing that movie in April). Likewise, the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights got rave reviews for having Explosions in the Sky do the soundtrack work.
I suppose expense might be an issue? But, I can't imagine it's more expensive than the Zimmers of the world.
My family was watching Lone Survivor on vacation last year. I didn't feel like watching it, so I went out to the patio and read some of "Blood Meridian". Anyway, I walked through the living room to the kitchen for more beer and caught about 2 bars of music and said "Hey, Explosions in the Sky." My sister was like "What?" I said "The music - that band is Explosions in the Sky." "You can tell from like half a second." "Yup." Turns out they did the whole soundtrack, not just that song.
//Cool story, bro.
That said, I loved/hated EitS on "Friday Night Lights". Their music was perfect for the show, but then I felt super stupid for getting teary over a fake high school football team from a fake town.
I ended up seeing it in theaters, but musically, it was a similar experience for me. If takes about two seconds - they just have a very particular sound.
Pretty quickly, I was way more interested in the musical cues than what was happening on screen.
"The Mighty Rio Grande" just got added to my regular rotation. Great music for filling out sales orders.
