Comin' down from the mountain
I have seen the high and mighty
I may go again some day
but for now I'm comin' down.
I think it's time for me to step aside from my role as curator of this place in the schedule, this "column".
I haven't written much here* for months, and I haven't gotten in to much new music besides. I'm kindof tired and bored with music right now and ready to stop hogging the space.
Who would like to take this for a few months on a trial basis? If at the end of some time, you want to give it back, maybe I'll want it back and maybe someone else does. If someone takes it and wants to keep it, I'm not going to want it back.
Let's not make this about whoever claims it first; if more than one person wants it, I'll either pick by next week Wednesday or ask for citizens to vote or something.
*meaning the lead of this "column". The writing isn't necessary; it's just a fun ritual and a place to talk about music. Yet I feel good writing can stir up good discussion. But: anything written as the "post" could just as easily be placed in a comment for the same effect.
OK now, share your random tens!

¹ Just picked this up a little but ago. I'm not sure if My Morning Jacket sounds like Fleet Foxes, or vice versa.
I would, but I'm pretty useless at expanding my listening rotation lately. Still just a bunch of Metamodern Sounds.
In other music news, I "needed" to fill out my cart on Amazon for free shipping. Aeroplane Over The Sea on vinyl to put me $0.42 over the threshold, don't mind if I do. It arrived yesterday. I need a better receiver and speakers than the one I got at Goodwill for $20. It was way too high, not enough of the lower registers.
I'm interested in having more discussions about music, and I'd be willing to toss out a topic or two. But I'm certainly not as into new music as I once was. I blame my kids.
I'd be interested too. Might force me to write my long neglected Guided By Voices dissertation. I could roll it out in short Friday-sized bites.
Any one going to Palomino Festival tomorrow? Will be interesting to see what shape Lydia Loveless and her band will be at 2:00p in the afternoon.
Serialized like a Dickens novel, and probably as through.
Festival Palomino was a blast. Hightlight was Dr. Dog who tore the place down. LL had a great short (30 minutes) set. The new songs sounded a lot better than they did in July. Laura Marling was great, but heavy. Benjamin Booker suffered from a bad mix. FJM was FJM. Trampled by Turtles were fun, but tough act to follow Dr. dog imho.
trampled by turtles and Dr. Dog are on the bill for landing fest outside nola. I'm on the fence as tickets are 55 bolas plus parking (at least 20 + a three hour wait to exit the parking lot (bit of a bottle neck? Youbetcha)), but I may just pull the trigger.
for those interested, if you like Explosions in the Sky check out YouTube for The Six Parts Seven, who I think have some sound in common
What in hearing is that we should have a rotation for a while to let a bunch of people try it out.
I'd be willing to do so, as well.
Herding multiple volunteers to put up scheduled posts is kind of a pain. Just sayin'.
Maybe instead of a rotation, everyone interested writes a post and an editor then schedules everything. This could easily lead to no one doing it if they don't feel the pressure however.
