"Luka" is probably her biggest hit, but I love "Marlena on the Wall" and had the EP back when it came out in '85. "Tom's Diner" is a classic.
I'd guess "Tom's Diner" is her biggest hit.
Verification...
"Luka" hit #3 on Billboard's top 100; "Tom's Diner" only hit #5.
"Luka" hit #52 on Billboard's year-end chart; "Tom's Diner" was #53.
"Tom's Diner" was #2 in the UK, but "Luka" only made it to #23.
"Luka" was #2 in Sweden, #5 in Canada, #8 in New Zealand, and #9 in Australia.
"Tom's Diner" was #1 in Austria, Switzerland, and Germany, #2 in Ireland and the Netherlands, #3 in Belgium, #8 in Australia and New Zealand, and #9 in Italy.
So... those were her two top hits, and putting one over the other requires making distinctions on territory covered.
"Tom's Diner" is the first song ever to be tested when the .mp3 compression format was being created.
Technically, "Tom's Diner" that hit the Billboard chart's isn't Suzanne Vega's original version, it's the DNA remix. It might be her biggest hit in that it's been remixed >50 times.
I still count remixes. Her song, her vox; someone added a beat.
I count the full-band version of "Sound of Silence" to be a Simon and Garfunkel song, not a Tom Wilson song.
Hey! Birds of prey in the Remix's video.
Falcon: Looks like a juvenile Peregrine, but I can't rule out some Old-world species.
Hawk: Looks Ferruginous, but I recall some Old-world buzzards that looked very similar.
I came to Ms. Vega by way of DNA's remix of "Tom's Diner" but found Solitude Standing to be a thoroughly enjoyable record.
