  1. I fell asleep during the top of the 10th. I guess it's going to take the Twins in it for me to finish one.

          1. I got home from curling in time for the 11th, watched that inning but needed to get to bed. I'm with Beau, it'd have to be the Twins or an epic game 7 for me to stay up that late.

            1. Also, I had a pretty fun curling match last night (Sundays are the night I skip). Made some questionable decisions on the first end to go down by four right away. But I was on fire with my draws and my third was doing great with sweep calls so I was able to whittle away at his lead. I was down two heading into the final end with the hammer and I was able to set it up to give me a draw for three and the win.

Then I drank some beer. Good times.

        1. I was up until 1:30 because that's what I do every night for no good reason.

You and me both ... trying hard to adjust this particular reality.

        2. I laid down on the floor in the little one's room so she'd go to sleep and assumed when I woke up at 12:30 that the game was done. Sounds as though I was mistaken.
At least I got to renew my Fan Card by having all five games on in the house for at least part of each game.

          1. The game was in the bottom of the 11th at 10:50 p.m. CST. So, if it wasn't actually over by 12:30 a.m. CST it was effectively over.

  2. I fell asleep when it was 4-2, must've been the pitching change let me fall asleep for good. Woke up to some celebrations and saw the final score but didn't wake up enough to go to bed until an hour later.
EAR told me that I left the TV on so she ended to watch the KMSP news in the morning. Welp, that's the end of watching broadcast TV for another 11 2/3 months!

  3. Fun with small sample sizes:

Through three games, Steph Curry's PER is over 52.

Through two games, Kobe Bryant shot the ball as many times as he passed it. Don't know about the third game, but I did see he was 3-15 last night.

    1. Also, this:

Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili combined for their 541st victory Sunday for the most wins by a threesome in NBA history.

I suppose that's not surprising, but I would have thought that there would have been a threesome in the early Celtics dynasty that would have had more. Guess not.

        1. Nice thing about basketball is the ability to re-enter a game. It allows a team to give a guy like KG the respect of a starting spot without overloading him with minutes and especially crucial minutes when he clearly doesn't have the energy. I believe KG will be to the Wolves what the Twins hoped (or even thought) they would get from Torii. I imagine if Torii could start the first couple innings of a game and then come back in for the final couple innings, he would be fine with reduced innings and would still be playing.

          1. Yeah, KG will be worth much more to the development of Towns than Hunter was to any one player on the Twins. Much, much, much more.

    2. Fun with small sample sizes cont'd:

All joking aside, Mitchell’s blend of Rubio bridging two grizzled veterans [Garnett & Prince] and two wunderkinds [Wiggins & Towns] has ratified the synergy of all five players. This quintet has played 31 minutes together over the first two games. They have allowed an unsustainably marvelous 69.3 points per 100 possessions in that time.

But because the Wolves offense is also being powered by the precocious rookie Towns and the surprisingly aggressive shot-making of Rubio, the Wolves net rating — the difference between how much they score and how much they allow in terms of points per possession — is a league-best plus-43.7 for five-man combinations with at least 30 minutes together.

  4. Found out yesterday that a guy I know passed away quietly on his couch this past week. Paul was a fellow tenor in the choir the last 2-3 years, and since this summer has joined us to play guitar and sing with us on our monthly outing to the local nursing home. He couldn't have been very far from 60 years old.

He was almost a savant in his ability to play '60s/'70s songs, and just as incredible in his recall of the lyrics. We were incredibly blessed to have had a few months to perform with him, and I know that the regular listeners at the nursing home are going to be devastated.

    1. Sorry to hear this, though I imagine passing "quietly on his couch" is one of the better ways to move on. Thanks for sharing Rhu.

  5. This Jayson Stark column has some good tidbits:

Dayton Moore[] turned to one of his special assistants, Jason Kendall

(emphasis mine) Jason Kendall is special assistant to GMDM? How did I know that? Rollins as baseballer works a baseball office job?

Ned Yost: "[Hosmer] wasn't afraid to make the last out of the game at home plate. And that's the thing about these guys. They play with no fear."
Except, as he motored toward the plate, legs pumping furiously, Hosmer actually was afraid he was about to make the last out at home. He just figured that "it's a lot easier to take that chance when you're up, three games to one."

    Compare with my thoughts:

Either he ties the game or a world series game is decided on a play at the plate. I like it either way. Royals have two more chances to do this at home if tonight doesn't work out. (Almost) playing with house money right now, can take those kinds of risks.

    Back to the Stark column:

"Once we tied it, I said, 'We've got this game,'" Yost said, "just because our bullpen is so good. So really, after we tied it, I felt totally relaxed. I even said, 'My heart should be beating faster than it is.'"

So, the opposite reaction Twins fans had facing the Yankees in the playoffs under Gardenhire.
