Minor Details: Games of April 29

The Red Wings were swept, but good games everywhere else, especially from the starting pitchers.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 6, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Red Wings lost leads of 2-0 and 4-2, as Slade Heathcott's two-run triple was part of a three-run seventh that carried the RailRiders to victory.  The comeback spoiled a good start by Pat Dean, who struck out five in five innings while giving up two runs on five hits and two walks.  He did throw 102 pitches in those five innings.  The Red Wings had only two hits but drew six walks and got the benefit of two S/WB errors.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.  James Beresford was 0-for-0 with three walks.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 10, ROCHESTER 2 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

A six-run second carried the RailRiders to a sweep of the doubleheader.  The Red Wings made two errors in the inning.  Starter Taylor Rogers went only three innings, allowing seven runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Darin Mastroianni was 2-for-3 with a double.  Rochester got four hits in this game, giving them a total of six for the doubleheader.

CHATTANOOGA 5, MONTGOMERY 4 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts took a 5-1 lead after four and then held on, as Montgomery scored single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth.  The Biscuits stranded seven runners in the last three innings, leaving men on second and third in both the seventh and ninth and leaving the bases loaded in the eighth.  The two teams combined to strand twenty-six baserunners.  David Hurlbut struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk.  Mitch Garver was 3-for-5 with two doubles.  Daniel Palka was 1-for-4 to drop his average to .351.

FORT MYERS 5, CHARLOTTE 0 IN CHARLOTTE

Keaton Steele pitched seven innings of one-hit ball, walking three and striking out four, to lead the Miracle.  Raul Fernandez finished up with two shutout innings.  Nick Gordon's fourth-inning double was the key to a two-run inning that put Fort Myers in the lead to stay.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 and Logan Wade was 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk.  Gordon was 1-for-4, giving him an average of .337.

CEDAR RAPIDS 4, SOUTH BEND 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Pitching was again the story, as Sam Clay went 5.2 innings and gave up one run on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  His ERA on the season (22.2 innings) is now 0.79.  C. K. Irby pitched two shutout innings, allowing only a walk and giving him 11.2 scoreless innings to start the season.  LaMonte Wade went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .357.  Luis Arraez took an 0-for-3 and is now batting .341.
