On this day in 1613, the Globe Theater burned to the ground. No word on whether spoons noticed.

It looks like I'll be going to the game at Target Field on July 5 (evening game against Oakland). I will be in the cities for a couple days (the schedule is fluid at this point).
Pregame or postgame are also pretty open (I think - our arrival is dependent on other factors, so we'll see. Like I said, fluid)
Given your professional background, shouldn't you be aware of a process for solidifying those plans?
I am guessing that the plans will develop organically.
I'm sure some elements are still up in the air
I see. Survival of the wittiest
In for an atom, in for a mole, I say.
July 5th, you say? I think that's the game where they're bringing back the former minor league pitching coach to work with the Twins manager. So hopefully the game will have a good Moli-Cuellar structure.
Yesterday my child was delivered. Today, the USPS tells me the game Punderdome was delivered.
I suspect Heidegger will edge out the game in the long run...
Please share your pregame thoughts.
I might be up for something before the last bus home (last bus: 7:10pm), but I can't confirm anything because there may be a funeral.
[I haven't heard anything on Grandma since Monday. At this point, no news is good news.]
So, I'm late to this party. Oswaldo lands in Tampa?
It's his first step towards the HOF.
7 for 16, 2 doubles and a home run. Only three strikeouts. Off to a pretty good start.
probably being properly platooned, like God intended from the beginning
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and the hitters who fared better against certain pitchers?
Unless you have one of those redacted bibles, yes. And it's "In the big inning..."

I'd give this a "dido" but Rhu put me in the corner earlier, so I don't think I can.
Small World Example #5482984: As with all Methodist churches, pastors are shuffled on a periodic basis. This past Sunday was the first with our new lead and associate pastors. Thanks to the wonders of Facebook, my wife's re-post of the church announcement, which I "liked", caught the attention of a neighbor of mine who grew up 2 miles from my childhood farm.
I used to run against brothers Dale and a David Schoenborn in track and was casual friends with them (they being from rival school Mahnomen). Dale is the brother-in-law of the neighbor Facebook friend I mentioned above, and he is the current mayor of Beltrami MN (pop. 107 - saaaalute!) where I grew up. Dale and David also have a sister named Denise...who is the wife of our lead pastor here in St. Charles MO. Yeah, small world.
My family calls that the Mott game. At lunch today, our waitress noticed my mom's ND shirt and said that she's from Dickinson. My dad had to ask her last name and then several other questions to identify who they might know in common. It's a dangerous game that my siblings have learned to avoid.

So, in addition to a broken leg (never heard of it), Hughes will be lost for the remainder of the season with "thoracic outlet syndrome" (which I've really never heard of).
Twins right-hander Phil Hughes is set to undergo season-ending surgery but is expected to be ready for Spring Training next season.
Hughes will have the surgery on July 6 in Minnesota to relieve the effects of thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition that compresses nerves or blood vessels in the arm. The procedure requires the removal of a rib in order to create more space for the vessels and nerves. Hughes, who was placed on the 60-day disabled list June 10 after a line drive fractured his left femur, went 1-7 with a 5.95 ERA in 12 appearances (11 starts). He'd also experienced pain in his throwing shoulder, which had caused fatigue in the arm and a drop in velocity. "It involves the nerves and blood vessels in the shoulder," general manager Terry Ryan said on Tuesday at U.S. Cellular Field. "They'll have to take part of a rib out. This isn't career-threatening, but it's an injury that explains maybe a little bit of his issue. If that is the case, that's a relief."
So glad they extended him through 2019, rather than losing him after this year!
Quick look at bbref and guess who his #1 similar pitcher through age 29 is?
We had a reliever in the late 90s that I believe had a rib removed as well. Can't think of who it is at the moment, but Hughes isn't the first.
I think thoracic outlet syndrome is not all that uncommon in overhead throwing sports, or those with similar arm motions. I first heard about it during the 2012 Olympics beach volleyball. I think Phil Dalhauser had a deep vein thrombosis as a complication of thoracic outlet syndrome, and those things can definitely kill you.
Listening to the early innings of the Fort Myers Miracle game. They mentioned that ex-Twin Michael Ryan is managing Bradenton, and that he somehow got ejected during the meeting with the umpires before the game started.

No, your timeout is done.
Well in that case:

Heh.
Since I will be travelling on the first monday of the month (and also it being July 4), I have no plans to put together a book post for that day.
If someone else feels so moved, they should feel welcome to post something reading-related on or around that day.
Looks like he couldn't look towards the sun one second more. Nice play, Beresford!
Sano makes up for it.
Sorry, Plouffe, MOAR SANO THIRD BASE, PLEASE!
