July 16, 2016: Free stuff

High school friend of my wife has a 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son. My kids are roughly 2 years younger, respectively. Every year, we get bags of hand me downs from them - here again today to deliver another load and swim in the pool ... I can't begin to contemplate how much money they've saved us.

  1. We have friends that have done that for us, and we have other friends we have done that for them. The best way to say thank you is to pass it on as much as possible.

    1. Agreed. Buddy and his wife had their first last March. We passed along enough (for every season!) to get her through age 3.

  2. Annual library district book Sale thus weekend. Usually a good chance to pick up HB copies of books I like, but mostly it's a chance for Mrs Runner to get another metric ton of cheesy historical romance novels

  3. So my wife let me go to that brew fest. Fulton has a stand here and I've been talking to the guy serving. I will be buying a lot of Fulton in the future. Super cool guy, and he just told me he'll have both Fulton beers and his own homebrew at the great taste.

  4. This is a hilarious coc. We just held the sale to end all sales and made a grand. Bo effing yeah.

  5. I'm on my second consecutive weekend solo parenting. It's going pretty well, but the jalapeño was stark naked through all of dinner tonight. It just wasn't worth the energy to figure out a reason for him to put his clothes on.

    1. Hey, I'm doing that this weekend too! Wife's on a business trip in Cancun over the weekend. At least she said it was a business trip... ???

      1. Solidarity, man.

Too bad you're in the wrong city or we could've met up at a playground.

        1. I'll be in the same boat starting in about 10 minutes, and running through next Tuesday, with a few more week-long trips for my wife coming up. Counting the vacation we just took, I think my wife may spend more time out of town than at home this summer.

          1. I hardly need mention you also live in the wrong city. We gotta coordinate this stuff better, guys!

Protip: I told the older boy I'd pay him a quarter to play nicely with his brother, and I got a good 45 minutes out of it.

            1. Nice.

Ours usually play very well together, and can do so on their own for at least an hour or so. Downside is that their playing "together" on their own usually results in the older one playing or reading quietly you himself, while the younger one dumps everything in the playroom out onto the floor at once.

      2. I'm confused. Are you solo parenting or eating dinner stark naked while your wife is away?
