Minor Details: Games of July 20

The Red Wings and Lookouts took leads early.  The Miracle did, too, but couldn't hold it.  Comebacks by the Kernels and E-Twins fall short.

ROCHESTER 6, DURHAM 2 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings scored two in the first and never trailed.  Nick Greenwood struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits.  Tommy Field was 2-for-3 with a home run (his seventh) and a double.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-3 with a home run (his fourth) and a walk.  Darin Mastroianni was 2-for-5 with a double.

CHATTANOOGA 7, JACKSON 3 IN JACKSON

Ryan Walker's two-run single capped a three-run fourth that gave the Lookouts a 4-1 lead.  Kohl Stewart threw 92 pitches in five innings, but he only gave up an unearned run on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-2 with three walks.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-3 with two walks.  Zach Granite was 0-for-4 with two walks and is batting .304.  The Lookouts received nine walks to go with eleven hits.

LAKELAND 13, FORT MYERS 10 IN FORT MYERS

The Miracle led 7-3 after seven, but the Flying Tigers exploded for seven in the eighth and three more in the ninth.  The Miracle got three of their own in the ninth and had the bases loaded before a ground out ended the game.  Randy Rosario pitched six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Nick Gordon was 4-for-5 with a double and is batting .307.  LaMonte Wade was 3-for-4 with two walks and is batting .379.  T. J. White was 2-for-3 with two walks.

BOWLING GREEN 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Kernels scored four in the fourth to tie it 4-4, but Zacrey Law homered leading off the fifth and Cedar Rapids could not reach home plate again.  Lachlan Wells pitched five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout in his first poor outing since joining the Kernels.  Max Cordy pitched three shutout innings of relief.  J. J. Fernandez got half of the Kernels hits, going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer (his seventh) and a walk.  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .342.  Casey Scoggins was 0-for-4 and is batting .302.

KINGSPORT 6, ELIZABETHTON 5 IN ELIZABETHTON

The Twins trailed 6-1 going to the bottom of the eighth, but got the tying run to third before finally falling.  Domenick Carlini lasted only 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.  He did get six strikeouts.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-3 with two walks, raising his average to .340.  Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-5.  Alex Kirilloff was 1-for-5 and is batting .329.

GCL TWINS 6, GCL RAYS 5 AT RAYS (15 INNINGS)

The Rays scored two in the ninth to tie it 3-3.  Tyree Davis had an RBI triple and later scored in a three-run fifteenth that put the Twins up 6-3.  The first two Rays went out in the bottom of the fifteenth, but a single, a walk, and a hit batsman loaded the bases.  Juan Carlos Arias then delivered a two-run single, but was thrown out trying to advance to second on a throw to end the game.  Miguel De Jesus pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Moises Gomez struck out five in 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.  His season ERA remains zero in 15.2 innings.  Dane Hutcheon led the offense by going 3-for-6 with  a walk.  Emmanuel Morel was 2-for-7 with a double and a walk to get his average into triple digits at .128.  Roni Tapia was 0-for-5 and is batting .038 (1-for-26).

DSL TWINS 4, DSL DIAMONDBACKS2 1 AT DIAMONDBACKS2 (GAME 1)

Already leading 2-1, the Twins scored two in the sixth on a walk, an error, a passed ball, and a single to take control.  Edwar Colina struck out eight in seven innings, allowing only an unearned run on six hits and a walk.  His ERA drops to 1.88 and he has 39 strikeouts and 15 walks in 41 innings.  Victor Tademo was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .343.  Jorge Parra was 1-for-5 with a triple and is batting .326.  Edgar Herrera was 0-for-2 with a walk and is batting .312.  

DSL DIAMONDBACKS2 2, DSL TWINS 1 AT DIAMONDBACKS2 (GAME 2--8 INNINGS)

Two walks and an error brought home the winning run for the Diamondbacks2 in the bottom of the eighth.  Pedro Garcia struck out six in four innings, giving up one run on two hits and four walks.  Agustin Marte was 2-for-2 with a walk and is batting .301.  The Twins drew nine walks but had only four hits, all singles.
