  1. I mean, this list might not be wrong, but that doesn't make it right either. No greek pizzerias (George's in Spamtown!!!!111one111!!!)???

I haven't lived in Minnesota since 1986, so my knowledge is a tad out of date. Back then, I was very partial to the Green Mill, where I first had deep dish. (and George's, of course)

last time I was in Spamtown, for my 30th h.s. reunion, I hit George's. Still good, even though George and Dinos are loooong gone from the operation.

    1. Best Pizza I ever ate in MN was Sven & Oles in Grand Marais. We had been hiking around all day, so its possible the hunger contributed to that, but we still talk about it almost 12 years later.

    2. my dad said Green Mill was great when it was a hole in the wall, but isn't a big fan of the chain it became

        1. Best deep dish I ever had was at the Green Mill on Hamline in 1981. I was on a recruiting trip to Macalaster and the then-football coach was buying. Which probably made it taste even better.

Way better than anything I ever had from Giordano's or Papa Del's.

but my heart is still with George's.

    3. Growing up in my town on the river, your family was partial to Sammy's, Rocco's, or Giovanni's. I haven't eaten a pie from any of them in at least fifteen years.

    4. I like a lot of different types of pizza depending on my mood, but if I'm just going to get one pizza in Minnesota it would probably be from Hello Pizza.

    5. Nothing in the Twin Cities has ever made me crave for it over the other Pizza options.
The two that have: Happy Joe's (New Ulm, though it's a franchise, so maybe other places taste the same), and Commander (Breezy Point).
Last time I had each, neither lived up to the memory. The Commander is a lot cleaner than it used to be, maybe you needed incidental second-hand smoke?

          1. Good God yes, not that cheap thin crust stuff at Imo's. Happy Joe's is on Watson Road somewhere; might have to meet there sometime when you're down.

  2. Those SRO passes for April and May are pretty restrictive. You can't print or forward them, and they expect everyone to arrive together and use the same phone as a ticket. I was worried that a screenshot of a ticket might not work because the live ticket has animated dots that move around just below the UPC and there's a time stamp. But I tested it out yesterday and the screenshot trick worked. So if anyone wants to head to the game today, I have 3 SRO tickets that aren't getting used - I can just send screenshots.

        1. Thanks Ben, got 6 innings in on a chillier than expected sunny afternoon.

Let us know next time you can't use tix.

  3. Current and lapsed players of my Survivor game - I think my next one is entirely going to be made up of twice-weekly predictive MLB challenges. No writing, no convoluted challenges. If this might grab you, let me know.

It wouldn't be for a couple of weeks.

    1. No offense, but you aren't my go-to obit guy. Is he really dead? Did he die in 1995?

      😉

    2. The Hold Steady shared a great Rickels story/one-liner on their Book of Face.

  4. Russian poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko died this last week.

We saw him speak at St. Thomas in St. Paul a number of years ago. He spoke in Российская and an interpreter gave us the play by play. My favorite was Tse Tse Неделя.

    1. Is that supposed to be Це Це or Тге Тге?
(I'm half just checking out how the italics treat those.)

      1. I don't know if "Тге" (/Tgye/) is even a possible string of consonants in Russian.
But it looks like the "г" /g/ is italicised as a backwards "s", which isn't what you showed, either.

  5. George Springer just led off the game with a home run after hitting a walk-off home run last night vs. the Mariners. I wouldn't be surprised if he's the first player to do that.

  6. With a minute and change to go, the Avs on the PP eventually push the puck under Dubnyk, but the play had been whistled dead. League reviews, decides play wasn't dead, Avs tie the game. Bruce challenges: goalie interference. Officials reverse the reversal, Wild kill the remaining PP to win.
