Minor Details: Games of April 24

A big inning gets the Lookouts a split, as Matt Tracy continues to pitch well.  The Kernels are shut out.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS

No game scheduled.

TENNESSEE 7, CHATTANOOGA 4 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Smokies opened the game with two walks and a two-run double by David Bote.  It was 3-0 after the first inning and the Lookouts never got any closer.  They scored three in the seventh to make it look better and actually had the tying run up to bat with two out, but Dan Gamache grounded out to end the game.

Kohl Stewart has alternated good and bad outings this year and this was one of the bad ones, as he lasted only three innings and allowed four runs on five hits and four walks.  He did strike out five.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .350.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .340.  Edgar Corcino was also 1-for-3 with a walk and is batting .304.  Jose Gonzalez was 1-for-2 with two walks and is batting .380.

CHATTANOOGA 5, TENNESSEE 0 IN CHATTANOOGA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

All the runs came in the bottom of the fifth.  LaMonte Wade singled and got to third on a stolen base-plus-error with two out.  Two walks loaded the bases.  Dan Gamache drove in two with a single, another walk loaded the bases, and Ryan Walker brought home three with a single, as Tanner English scored from first.  The closest the Smokies came to scoring was the third inning, as Carlos Penalver was thrown out at the plate trying to scored from second on an infield single.

Matt Tracy pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  His ERA is down to 1.53 with 14 strikeouts and 5 walks in 17.2 innings.  Mason Melotakis pitched a perfect ninth, keeping his ERA at zero.  He has struck out 8 and walked 1 in 7.2 innings (6 games).  Gamache was 2-for-3.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk and dropped to .333.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 and is batting .339.

FORT MYERS MIRACLE

No game scheduled.

BURLINGTON 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Jordan Zimmerman's two-run double in the first put the Bees in the lead.  They added two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one in the eighth.  The Kernels twice got a leadoff triple and could not score the run.

Tyler Beardsley, who had pitched quite well in his first two starts, did not do so in this game, going five innings and giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Quin Grogan made his Class A debut and somehow managed to go unscored upon in 1.1 innings despite giving up four hits and a walk.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a triple and is batting .397.  Mitchell Kranson was 0-for-4 and is batting .340.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-3 and is batting .302.
