Minor Details: Games of May 5

A tough game for Adalberto Mejia.  It may be time to start thinking about moving Nick Gordon to AAA.  No clutch hitting for Fort Myers.  A couple of big innings carry Cedar Rapids.

PAWTUCKET 7, ROCHESTER 2 IN ROCHESTER

A pair of three-run innings carried the Red Sox.  Steve Selsky doubled home two in a three-run third and consecutive RBI doubles by Rusney Castillo, Selsky, and Sam Travis made it 6-0 after four.  The Red Wings avoided a shutout with two runs in the eighth but never threatened to get back into the game.  Ex-Twins farmhand Heiker Meneses was 2-for-3 with a walk for Pawtucket.

Adalberto Mejia pitched four innings, allowing six runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts.  Justin Haley made his Rochester debut by striking out two in a perfect inning.  D. J. Baxendale pitched three innings and gave up an unearned run.  Raul Fernandez pitched a perfect inning.  Leonardo Reginatto had half of the Red Wings hits, going 2-for-3 to make his batting average .308.

CHATTANOOGA 8, PENSACOLA 1 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Lookouts broke open a 1-1 tie with a five-run second.  Nick Gordon had a two-run single in the inning.  Chattanooga got the benefit four walks, a hit batsman, and two wild pitches in the inning.

Randy LeBlanc pitched much better in his second AA outing, going five innings and giving up one run on seven hits and four walks with one strikeout.  He threw 92 pitches.  Randy Rosario struck out four in three perfect innings to lower his ERA to 2.77.  Nick Burdi struck out the side in the ninth, lowering his ERA to 0.96.  He has struck out 13 with 3 walks in 9.1 innings.  Gordon was 3-for-5 with two doubles and is batting .340 with an OBP of .402.  Engelb Vielma was 3-for-5 and is batting .326.  Levi Michael was 2-for-3 with a walk.

ST. LUCIE 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

The Mets got single runs in the first, second, and fourth to take a 3-0 lead.  The lone Miracle run came in the seventh on a double, a ground out, and a wild pitch.  Fort Myers left the bases loaded in the eighth and had men on first and second with one out in the ninth.  The Miracle stranded eleven men and went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Lachlan Wells pitched four innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  He threw 80 pitches.  Michael Theofanopoulos and Nick Anderson each pitched two shutout innings, with Anderson keeping his ERA at zero through 11.1 innings.  He has struck out 11 and walked 1.  Chris Paul was 2-for-5 and is batting .318.

CEDAR RAPIDS 12, FORT WAYNE 4 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The TinCaps scored two in the first, but the Kernels responded with six in the second and five in the fifth to take control of the game.  Lewin Diaz had a two-run triple in the second and Jermaine Palacios had a two-run double in the fifth.  Cedar Rapids scored twelve runs on just ten hits, but received six walks and a hit batsman.

Sean Poppen pitched 6.1 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  His ERA is now 1.89  Hector Lujan pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief to drop his ERA to 2.19.  Diaz was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk.  Jaylin Davis was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and four RBIs.  He is batting .368.  Aaron Whitefield was 1-for-5 and is batting .304.
