Minor Details: Games of May 9

Kyle Gibson makes his Rochester debut for the season.  Jonathan Rodriguez leads a Lookouts comeback.  It got late early for Fort Myers.  A Kernels comeback falls short.

LEHIGH VALLEY 4, ROCHESTER 1 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

The IronPigs scored two in the first on a pair of RBI groundouts and led the whole game.  The lone Red Wings run scored on a double play in the third.  Their only other threat came in the fifth, when a pair of two-out singles put men on first and second.  Ex-Twin Pedro Florimon started at second base for Lehigh Valley.  He went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, but is batting just .160 in 23 at-bats.

Kyle Gibson made his first AAA start of the season and struck out eight in six innings, but also gave up three runs on six hits and a walk.  Bengie Gonzalez was 2-for-3.

CHATTANOOGA 6, MONTGOMERY 5 IN MONTGOMERY

The Biscuits scored two in the first and built a 5-0 lead through seven.  Jonathan Rodriguez had an RBI double in the eighth to get the Lookouts on the board, but it was still 5-1 going to the ninth.  A single and two walks loaded the bases, a hit batsman made it 5-2, and Rodriguez struck again, hitting a one-out grand slam to give Chattanooga a 6-5 lead.  Montgomery went down in order in the ninth.

Paul Clemens pitched five innings, giving up four runs on six hits and five walks with three strikeouts.  Nick Burdi struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 0.77 with 15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings.  John Curtiss pitched a scoreless ninth to keep his ERA at zero with 16 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.  Edgar Corcino was 3-for-5 and is batting .300.  Rodriguez was 2-for-5 and the home run was his fourth.  LaMonte Wade was 1-for-5 and is batting .314.  Engelb Vielma was 0-for-4 and is batting .304.  Nick Gordon did not play--as far as I know it was just a day off.

PALM BEACH 7, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Casey Turgeon hit a two-run homer in a four-run third that gave the Cardinals a 5-0 lead.  The lone Miracle run came in the fourth, when Max Murphy tripled and scored on a Nelson Molina single.  They did not get a man past first after that.

David Fischer, who had made four solid starts, didn't have it this night, pitching five innings and giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Anthony McIver struck out three in two shutout innings of relief.  Kevin Garcia was 2-for-3 and is batting .300.  Murphy was 2-for-4.  Chris Paul was 0-for-4 and is batting .317.  Bradley Strong made his high-A debut and was 0-for-3.

DAYTON 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN DAYTON

Already leading 2-1, the Dragons scored three in the sixth to take control of the game.  The Kernels scored single runs in the seventh and ninth and had the tying run on base with two out, but Brandon Lopez struck out to end the game.

Tyler Beardsley did all right for five innings, but his numbers are six innings, five runs (four earned), seven hits, two walks, and no strikeouts.  Andrew Vasquez struck out two in two shutout innings to make his ERA 2.03.  Caleb Hamilton was 3-for-4 with a double.  Shane Carrier was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .356.
