I wonder what Kevin Slowey did to Dick Bremer, that he can't let go of it all these years later.
Seriously. Breamer was subtweeting Slowey Friday. Brought it up late in the game yesterday, and now today.
I wasn't listening (dicknbert are guaranteed to be annoyingly cheesy on a memorial day), but things like that are what makes him so hard to listen to. It's too bad, too, because he's got a voice that would be pretty good if he'd just stick to play by play.
It seems like there has to have been something personal there. Even if we assume Slowey was one hundred percent in the wrong for not wanting to pitch in relief, would you still hold a grudge against him after all this time just for that? Nobody would even remember Kevin Slowey's time with the Twins if Bremer didn't keep bringing him up.
I had to look it up, because I couldn't remember how long it's been since he was here. Yeah, that's not a good look for dick. It's kinda funny that it appears slowey did pitch in relief for Miami in 2014.
Sano had such an incredible start to the season that I can't imagine this lasting forever, but is it time to start worrying?
It feels like he abandoned the plate discipline that made him so dangerous a few weeks ago. It's probably a matter of readjusting, but it's frustrating to watch him spin out in the meantime.
Yeah, he doesn't seem to be adjusting to pitcher's adjusting. More concerning to me, though, is that he suddenly seems to have a massive hole in his swing.
I don't know. Everybody goes through slumps, and power hitters tend to do it more. I guess I'm not too concerned yet.
KKKKK
Rastro sqwaukers lauding the merits of Peacock sliders.
Seems to be a pretty big inside corner to right-handers.
Yes, Bert, I suppose we could call every pitch within a foot off the strike zone a strike, and it would definitely speed up the game. I still prefer going by the rule book, though.
Rastros have their own Gordo on that one. Seems fair.
Well this is turning into a stupid game.
In a good way.
Dick, every team commits errors. Yes, it's not good, and yes it can hurt you, but errors are far from the Twins' biggest problem.
It's a good thing I usually listen to the radio, which I'll be switching to in twenty minutes or so. If I was always watching on TV,I'd annoy everyone by filling up the game logs arguing with Dick and Bert.
Did we think a couple weeks ago that by this time Joe would have a higher BA than Miguel? It's practically to that point
Based on their K rates this year, it should have been pretty predictable. Hard to imagine Sano ever being a high average guy without cutting down pretty dramatically on his Ks.
You could predict a 2-week swing? We aren't talking about season-ending stats here.
The inside corner seems to have shrunk as the game has gone on.
Kepler's 2nd law of motion, on Peacock's slider (Har).
Good batting by Kepler there. He really went down and got that one.
Polanco tri-tip, suweet!
Zoinks, Scoob!
Oliva-esque AB there by Grossman.
Grossman has flaws, but he does hit right-handers fairly well.
He certainly has this year. For his career, he's hit left-handers better. Always did a good job reaching base from both sides, however.
Joe "Mr. Clutch" Mauer!
R I S P spells Mauer
Slump that!!!!!
Sanoooo!
Dazzle called it. "we're just a HR short of a cycle this inning"
Yep. I'm back on radio, so I heard that.
When we've been bashing the ball all over the place, why is Kepler bunting?
Nice Buxton catch on the A' smote.
Yank 'em, Pauly.
Come on, Ervin. We don't have this one wrapped up yet.
Did Buxton get hurt? Why is Adrianza batting here?
That's the only way this makes sense.
Twitters speculating he hurt his right hand on dive.
Provus reports lacerated right index finger.
Grossman!!!!!
Huge start for Ervin after that marathon yesterday.
True, but it's looking like two innings is still more than the Twins bullpen can handle.
I don't know if there's a single pitcher in the bullpen I trust other than duffey
And he ain't allowed to pitch today
I would approve of a double play here.
Good grief.
It's starting to look like our best hope may be for the game to get rained out.
I guess we can hope the rain dealy broke Houston's momentum or something.
Well, so much for that hope.
For crying out loud.
I'll be expecting to read that Pressly goes on the DL following the game
I know the bullpen is tired, but there's no excuse for this.
they're all going on the DL!
Seriously, though, if Buxton is in the game, the Twins have the lead. He's so damn important to this pitching staff
That's probably true, but it doesn't provide an excuse for the pitchers. Tired or not, weakened defense or not, you should be able to protect a six-run lead.
Of course. But I'm just saying the Twins don't have a good pitching staff, and they haven't had one all year. Their defense has bailed them out dozens of times already.
Fully agree with that.
I didn't know it was possible to give yourself a wedgie.
So relieved to be at work right now. I'm getting angry just reading the push notifications.
So now Santana isn't the pitcher of record anymore, right?
Bring. Up. Some. Minor. League. Arms.
I don't want to hear about Pressly's "stuff", and I don't want to hear about Belisle's "veteranness". Neither of them are playing like major leaguers.
The Fort Myers bullpen should be able to hold a big league team to fewer than fourteen runs in two innings.
In fact, Chris Gimenez could've held them to fewer than fourteen runs in two innings. They could've sent Neil Allen and Everyday Eddie out there and held them to fewer than fourteen runs in two innings. This was pathetic.
ERA may be a lousy way to evaluate pitchers, much less relievers, but I'm pretty sure having two relievers North of 8.50 is bad. Very, very bad.
We finally figured out a way to get an out!
I turned off the game after the bottom of 7.
yikes.
At home, Brad Peacock 6th pitcher who's last name is type of bird to face the Twins. Parrott, Bird, Crow, Henn and Swift the others...
I turned it off after the 6th. Yikes. Nick Burdi's injury really hurts now. And this is why Sunday's loss really hurt. We basically lost this game because we tried to win Sunday's game. I mean, sure the Twins still should have won today, but I have no doubt the Twins win today if they had won yesterday in 9 innings.
Joe Mauer mad a nice play in the field.

"Bird" is a type of bird?
That's a tough one to parse.
Also, "Henn" is only a type of bird phonetically.
Relinking to Friday's comment.
