John Ryan Murphy gets some key hits for the Red Wings. A big inning carries the Lookouts. The Miracle still don't have much offense. The Kernels more than made up for it, led by Jermaine Palacios.
ROCHESTER 9, SYRACUSE 3 IN ROCHESTER
The Red Wings scored three in the first, but the Chiefs answered with three in the second. It stayed 3-3 until the sixth, when John Ryan Murphy singled home a run to give Rochester a 4-3 lead. The Red Wings then put the game out of reach with five in the eighth, as Murphy struck again with a two-run double and Syracuse made two errors. Ex-Twin Neal Cotts appeared int he game for the Chiefs, retiring the only batter he faced.
Adam Wilk pitched well other than in the second inning, going sxi innings and giving up three runs on five hits and a walk. Alan Busenitz pitched two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.05 and Drew Rucinski pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 2.31. Tommy Field was 3-for-4 with two doubles. ByungHo Park was 2-for-3 with a walk. Murphy was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Zack Granite had his eighth consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 to make his average .311.
CHATTANOOGA 7, MONTGOMERY 4 IN MONTGOMERY
Granden Goetzman hit a two-run double in the first to put the Biscuits in the lead. They still led 2-1 through five, but the Lookouts scored five in the sixth to take control of the game. Ryan Walker hit a three-run triple in the inning. Montgomery got two in the ninth and brought the tying run up to bat with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.
Fernando Romero struck out six and walked five in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Luke Bard struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, making his ERA 2.73. He has 48 strikeouts and 9 walks in 29.2 innings. T. J. White was 3-for-5 with a double. Dan Rohlfing was 3-for-5. Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with two walks. Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .309. Edgar Corcino was 1-for-5 and is batting .300.
TAMPA 2, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS
The Yankees scored single runs in the second and sixth. The Miracle did not get on the board until the ninth. They opened the inning with consecutive singles and a one-out error loaded the bases, but they did not score until a wild pitch with two out. The tying and winning runs were in scoring position, but a fly out ended the game.
David Fischer pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits and five walks with two strikeouts. Andrew Vasquez struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, keeping his ERA at zero in four innings since being promoted to Fort Myers. Sam Clay and Alex Muren each pitched a scoreless inning, giving them ERAs of 2.32 and 1.88, respectively. The Miracle had just five hits, with no batter getting more than one.
CEDAR RAPIDS 15, BURLINGTON 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS
The Kernels scored five in the first and cruised to an easy win. Their first five batters got hits, getting two doubles and three singles. They got eight hits in the first inning and twenty-two for the game.
Clark Beeker apparently pitched to the score, as he pitched six innings and gave up four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five. Colton Davis pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.67. Jermaine Palacios was 5-for-6 with two home runs (his ninth and tenth) and two doubles, scoring five times and driving in three. He is now batting .327. Ben Rortvedt was 3-for-4 with a walk. Mitchell Kranson was 3-for-5 with three runs. Travis Blankenhorn was 3-for-6 with a home run, his seventh. Lewin Diaz was 3-for-6. Brandon Lopez was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk, driving in three. Aaron Whitefield was 2-for-5.
DSL TWINS AT DSL NATIONALS--SUSPENDED GAME
The Twins sent two men up to bat in the first inning, both of whom were retired, then the game was rained out. No word on when it will be made up, but the Twins will play the Nationals again on the 24th and 26th of June, so one suspects one of those may be the date.
